After the presentation of Skull & Bones, another game from Ubisoft could appear on the horizon soon, which many have already checked off as capsized. According to well-known and mostly reliable leaker Tom Henderson, Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in development and is set to go through an off-company playtesting phase soon (via exporter).

This sign of life from Beyond Good & Evil 2 gives us courage

It’s all about this: Beyond Good & Evil will be twenty years old in 2023. The title for PS2, Xbox and the Gamecube was not a mega hit commercially, but it had loyal fans from the start who have been waiting for a successor ever since. Beyond Good & Evil 2 was first teased by Ubisoft in 2008, only to go unnoticed for nearly a decade.

Fans are concerned: Even since the official announcement at E3 2017, things haven’t been noticeably better for the franchise. At the end of last year there were rumors that the project was still in creative chaos, was consuming a lot of money and could possibly be discontinued. The controversial farewell to chief developer and Rayman creator Michel Ancel in 2020 probably also contributed to the fact that Beyond Good & Evil 2 had no clear direction for a long time.

Sexism issues at Ubisoft: The French Assassin’s Creed developer and publisher has been accused of a toxic corporate culture since July 2020. These include far-reaching sexism problems, misogyny and discrimination, which are said to be deeply rooted in the company. Although Ubisoft has already drawn conclusions, for example by exchanging management staff and openly commenting on the allegations, many employees feel that these measures are not sufficient within the company.

How does BG&E 2 play anyway? Now the external test phase is supposed to start, which at least means that a playable build exists. What we’ve seen of Beyond Good & Evil 2 so far is a bit reminiscent of Mass Effect, albeit with online aspects and an open, procedurally generated game world. In the gameplay presentation, we could see that we can easily get into a vehicle and take off into orbit. In addition, there should be many planets and several solar systems.

In the trailer there are loads of impressions of the ambitious project:

Beyond Good & Evil 2 – Pre-Alpha Demo: Ubisoft finally shows the secret E3 gameplay

More information could be available as early as September: Whether Ubisoft has really managed to turn things around and steer BG&E 2 into calmer waters, we will probably only know when we see new gameplay. In September there will be a Ubisoft Forward Show, during which the new Assassin’s Creed could also be presented. It is not yet known whether Beyond Good & Evil 2 will also be included in the stream.
