Quite simply, “Star Trek: The Movie” was the name of the first cinema adaptation of the well-known hit TV series – and it was no less successful. September 8th is Star Trek Day. On this occasion, according to Paramount Home Entertainment, no effort was spared to banish the film as a Director’s Cut on UHD Blu-ray.
The material has been completely restored for this purpose. In addition, previously unreleased bonus material is on offer. When the film hit theaters in 1979, it took the American box office at warp speed, according to Paramount, and laid the groundwork for a long theatrical run. The sci-fi received three Academy Award nominations for Best Visual Effects, Best Production Design, and Best Music.
The company OTOY is responsible for the rendering. A preview was released in March, see below. Paramount+ subscribers in the US have been able to watch the stream since April. The service is scheduled to start here in December.
