SWAFAN 12/14 RGB: Thermaltake brings fans with exchangeable rotors

With the SWAFAN 12 RGB and the SWAFAN 14 RGB, Thermaltake has announced two new fans with rotors that can be removed and replaced. This is to allow for easy cleaning and reverse airflow.

With the SWAFAN 12 RGB and the SWAFAN 14 RGB, Thermaltake has announced two new fans. In keeping with the name, which is supposed to be short for “Swappable Fan”, the two fans are the company’s first models where the rotors can be removed.

Two fans, two directions

With the option of removing the rotors without tools, Thermaltake promises two advantages in particular. On the one hand, it should be possible to clean the fan blades without having to remove the entire fan. On the other hand, every SWAFAN should come with a second set of fan blades that can be used to reverse the airflow direction.

For example, you could operate all the fans in such a way that the support struts point towards the housing or the cooler and thus no longer stand out visually. Apparently, replacing the fans regularly is not entirely maintenance-free: Thermaltake wants to add some lubricant to the fans so that the bearing can be serviced.

Apart from the exchangeable rotor, the 120 mm SWAFAN 12 RGB fan and the 140 mm SWAFAN 14 RGB fan also offer RGB lighting, which Thermaltake says is made possible by three rings with a total of 30 ARGB LEDs. When it comes to the important operating specifications, however, the company is reluctant: It is only said that the fans run at a maximum of 2000 RPM and are particularly suitable for radiators. Information on the air flow and pressure as well as the volume or the price is missing so far. Here you will have to be patient until Thermaltake sets up a corresponding product page or puts the two fans on the market.
