A Plague Tale: Requiem: Rats are now stronger enemies

Not only Hugo’s illness has evolved in A Plague Tale: Requiem, the rats can now do more and should pose a greater threat.

As we previously reported, the developers of A Plague Tale: Requiem spoke up about the benefits of abandoning the last gen versions. There was already talk of chases with hundreds of thousands of rats, which would simply not have been technically possible in the predecessor, but are now being implemented.

But it doesn’t stop there: The rats are not only much more intelligent, they are also able to overcome differences in height. This mechanic can then even be exploited by the player with the help of Hugo to get to places that are actually out of reach. At the same time, loss of control should be a relevant gameplay mechanic.

Game Director Kevin Choteau comments, “Hugo is young and vulnerable. He has the power to control rats, making him an effective gameplay tool against threats in many situations. However, it can be dangerous if he loses control of it.”

Amicia have therefore also evolved:

“Unfortunately, Amicia had to get used to dealing with death, which no longer shocks her.”

So, the protagonist will be more brutal and will more often accept active confrontations with opponents to protect her brother. A Plague Tale: Requiem will be released on October 18th for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC. At release, the game will also be playable directly via Xbox Game Pass.
