Apple plans to launch new MacBook Pro 14 and MacBook Pro 16 models with the M2 Pro and M2 Max processor variants before the end of 2022. However, supply chain issues could also delay the release.

Although Apple has just released a new MacBook Air and a MacBook Pro with the new M2 processor, even more powerful laptops with faster processors such as the M2 Pro and the M2 Max are expected to appear in the fall. At least that’s what Bloomberg editor Marc Gurman claims in his newsletter (via 9to5Mac).

Old design with new processors

In particular, the MacBook Pro models with 14 and 16 inch displays could receive another upgrade almost a year after the last update. Unlike last year, when Apple gave the models a revised design and new connections, Gurman only expects the almost obligatory processor update this time.

It would be remarkable that almost a year had passed between the release of the original M1 processor at the end of 2020 and the upgraded M1 Pro and M1 Max variants in October 2021. With the M2 processor series, Apple seems to be trying to reduce the release distances between the different chip variants.

Whether this will work out in the end, however, does not seem to be entirely certain. According to Gurman, there is some uncertainty about the market launch of the new MacBook models in the fall. In particular, difficulties with the supply chains could mean that the devices will not arrive until spring 2023.
