A hacker team wants to release the first jailbreak for iOS 15 soon. However, the latest version iOS 15.4.1 should not be supported for the time being.

A new software tool could soon enable jailbreaks for iPhones with the latest iOS 15 operating system. That reports 9to5Mac. The tool is being developed by a group that calls itself the Odyssey Team. In a post on Twitter, the team has already teased its new hacking tool with the first screenshots.

Jailbreaks only possible up to iOS 15.1.1

As members of the group revealed on Reddit, the jailbreak tool will be released shortly. However, anyone who has already updated their iPhone to the latest software version iOS 15.4.1 will not be able to use it at first. In the first version, only versions up to iOS 15.1.1 should be supported. However, support will later be extended to version 15.4.1.

Jailbreaks are becoming rarer – but not impossible

In a way, a jailbreak is a hack of the iPhone operating system, with which certain software restrictions are switched off. This enables the iPhone to work with software not intended by Apple. Jailbreaks were particularly popular in the early days of iPhones, when there were not that many apps and when many of the features that are standard today were not yet supported by the official Apple software.

However, since jailbreaking also disables iOS security features, Apple has worked hard over the years to make such access to the system more difficult. As a result, jailbreaks are now much rarer and often only come when an iOS version has already been replaced by a new one.
