Is the MCU getting worse? Marvel directors make statement
That MCU has been for many fans since the release of Avengers Endgame not the same anymore. Many feel that the quality of the new films and series, and especially the stories told in them, has diminished. The red thread is missing since Thanos was defeated and phase 4 alternately bobs up DisneyPlus and in the cinema without a significant villain for our heroes to team up against. Filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo have now shared their thoughts on fan reactions in an interview.
Marvel Studios: more quantity than quality?
Before superhero films from the house Marvel Studios fans can hardly save themselves. But what may have been desirable years ago has now become a point of criticism. Complaints are being made about the sheer number of MCU projects that are hitting theaters and Disney Plus almost non-stop.
First and foremost, Phase 4 of the MCU lacks direction and a clear plan for the future. The new stories aren’t as coherent as those Infinity Saga and that frustrates some in the long run. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo defended Marvel Studios’ decisions in a conversation with NBC News.
The two helped direct The Return of the First Avenger, The First Avenger: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame and largely shaped the MCU with their work.
“It looks like the whole life of the MCU has had its ups and downs, obviously there will be variations in how people feel about it based on the last movie.”explained one of the filmmakers. “But I think at the end of the day they’re still very ambitious in terms of how they tell the story. They’re open to experimentation.”
“They’re looking for new forms of expression to delight and surprise audiences. It still seems like they have a vital creative code and process to follow, so I think there’s still a lot of hope for what’s possible in the MCU. We haven’t lost faith in that, that’s for sure.”
