Original report from March 1, 2019: 3, 2, 1, it’s over in our latitudes from March 2nd in Pokémon Go, because then the legendary dimension Pokémon Palkia will move out of the tier 5 raids of the Niantic game and make room for his buddy Dialga. Officially, Dialga will appear in Tier 5 Raids starting March 1 at 10 p.m. But since we don’t start any new raids after 9 p.m., you have to be patient until March 2nd, 2019. Dialga is a 4th generation Steel and Dragon-type Pokémon, and forms the dimensional trio along with Giratina and Palkia. In the following, we have listed useful tips and useful counter-Pokémon in our short guide to fighting Dialga.

Pokemon Go: Dialga as raid boss

As a raid boss, Dialga has 53,394 competition points, so it’s quite a chunk. As a Dragon and Steel-type Pokémon, Dialga takes more damage from Fighting and Ground-type attacks. Dialga can be defeated by pairs of level 40 players with level 40 Pokemon such as Machamp, Boulder Mushroom, or Hariyama in cloudy weather and with a Best Friends bonus, but it’s not easy. Typically three to six high level trainers can defeat Dialga. If you want to be on the safe side, come with a group of seven or more trainers.

Dialga is mostly boosted by snow and windy weather: In windy weather, Dialga’s Breath of Fire Instant Attack and Draco Meteor Charged Attack deal more damage. When there is snow, Dialga’s steel attacks “Metal Claw” (Instant Attack) and “Iron Skull” (Charged Attack) are boosted. And in rainy weather, Dialga’s Thunder Charged Attack deals more damage. However, if you want a weather-boosted level 25 Dialga, you can’t help but tackle the fight in windy or snowy weather. Important for you: Your Pokémon’s ground attacks are boosted when the weather is sunny, and your pocket monsters’ fighting attacks when the sky is cloudy.

The following Pokemon are considered the best counters for fighting Dialga:

  • mahomey with the attacks “Counter” and “Blast”
  • cap mushroom with the attacks “Counter” and “Blast”
  • Hariyama with the attacks “Counter” and “Blast”
  • Lucario with the attacks “counter” and “melee”
  • Scaraborn with the attacks “counter” and “melee”
  • Toxicroak with the attacks “Counter” and “Blast”
  • groudon with the attacks “Clay Shot” and “Earthquake”

If you need to fill up your team, then use the following attackers

  • Blair with the attacks “Counter” and “Focus Blast”
  • Galagladi with the attacks “foot kick” and “melee”
  • rhyperior with the attacks “Clay Shot” and “Earthquake”
  • burpo with the attacks “Smash” and “Blast”
  • mamuttel with the attacks “Clay Shot” and “Steamroller”
  • Donphan with the attacks “Counter/Clay Shot” and “Earthquake”
  • mewtwo with the attacks “Psychic Blade” and “Focus Strike”
  • Rizeros with the attacks “Clay Shot” and “Earthquake”

Pokemon Go: Catch Dialga

As previously mentioned, Dialga is boosted to level 25 in windy or snowy weather. If you get to the catch screen after defeating the raid boss, the Legendary Pokemon can have between 2,771 and 2,884 CP at level 25. On the other hand, if the dialga on your screen is not boosted by the weather and is therefore level 20, then it has between 2,217 and 2,307 WP. So a 100 IV Dialga has 2,307 WP unboosted and 2,884 WP boosted.
