WoW: I’m looking forward to Dragonflight, but I’ll really miss some things…
At the latest since the WoW Alpha servers: Dragonflight are online, Shadowlands has ended in the minds of many players. And that’s despite the fact that we’ll be hanging around in the shadow lands for a few more months and will even revisit all the raids as part of the fourth season. The anticipation of the Dragon Islands is just too great. With the upcoming expansion, the Blizzard developers are going exactly in the direction that many players currently want from WoW: less pompous, but more down-to-earth and back to the roots of the MMO.
This also means that we are no longer overwhelmed with various features. Especially ones that only come into play for one expansion and then disappear, never to be seen again. In Shadowlands we had quite a number of them – all priority of course being the covenants and everything behind them. We say goodbye to most of it with kisses and are happy that it won’t be part of Dragonflight. But we would have liked to have taken some features or content with us and will definitely miss them on the Dragon Islands – as long as the WoW developers don’t conjure something out of the hat.
Not everything was bad in Shadowlands
The current WoW expansion has had to take a lot of beatings in the past two years – in many cases rightly so. But not everything in Shadowlands was bad. The extension could certainly shine with good content or features. Unfortunately, most of them came much too late and only became respectable when hardly anyone took a look at them. With many of them, saying goodbye is still relatively easy for us. But there are a few things that our editor can only leave with a weeping eye.
The Covenant Events – at least some of them
Admittedly, the monstrosity patchwork of the Necrolords wasn’t that great and the garden of the Night Fae was hard to beat in terms of boredom in my eyes. The Venthyr Tea Party and the Kyrian Path of Ascension were great though. Minor features that exist outside of the progression and loot spiral and are just there for fun.
In Dragonflight, where we are known to have significantly fewer features and no more Borrowed Power, I really hope that we will be provided with such games in the game again. Otherwise, boredom could set in pretty quickly unless you’re into endless Mythic Plus evenings.

My Provost – my friend and helper
Without a doubt I will miss him the most on the Dragon Islands. I don’t even know how to survive without my little Akiris anymore? Who is getting my mail? Who gets my potions from the bank? And above all: Who saves me so much gold because I can change my talents for free with him? Okay, almost all of this has an alternative. But are they really that cute and can they play music for us? Or tell a friend how great we found him???
When I meet my great-grandchildren in 40 years on the rocking chair from WoW (buy now ) tell Shadowlands, I won’t talk about the Maw, Korthia, or Shard of Dominion. I’ll talk about the adventures and friendship between a dwarf and his provost – who only thanks to their bond saved the world from the jailer!

Pocopoc – he can do what I can’t
I will also miss this cuddly companion every day. Not necessarily because he’s so cute and makes funny noises, but much more because he offered something in a playful way that I’ve missed in WoW for a long time. Thanks to his advanced combat options, he was able to make up for exactly what my character was missing.
If I was traveling as a healer, he did a lot of damage for me. On the other hand, when I was in Zereth Mortis as a soft cloth DPS, the little smooch ball provided me with plenty of healing. Other MMOs have had companion systems like this for a long time. Pocopoc was only the light version of it, but it was enough to know that I wanted something like that in WoW too. Maybe we can let our kites from kite riding fight next to us at some point?

Torghast – yes, really
Some readers just stopped reading to pick out the torches and pitchforks. But before you lynch me, I’m not talking about the version of Torghast that Shadowlands went live with. What I will miss is the final version of how the endless tower is now.
Because Torghast is now not only completely optional, but also much more fun. Thanks to different game modes, we can choose between the fast lap in between and a long run over 18 corridors. It should be said that like dungeons, Torghast is of course the most fun when we play it together with our friends. If only to get thievishly happy when you pick up one super bonus after the next while your friends get 50 phantasms.

Apart from that, there are of course still a lot of things that I will miss, at least partially. The Synthesis Forge was a good idea that should have been continued. The Great Treasury, on the other hand, will be continued and hopefully will not miss any major changes, otherwise I will have to mourn the current version. I will also definitely miss some covenant abilities if they don’t make it into the new talent trees. What will you miss about WoW: Shadowlands – or are you happy that the expansion will soon come to an end and will you never look back?
