Mario Kart fan installs Wii steering wheel in real car and drives it on the street

In Mario Kart Wii, players could insert their Wii controller into a steering wheel for a whole new driving experience. A user on TikTok now reveals that he took the experience a little too seriously and is doing things with his Wii steering wheel that we didn’t think were possible.

Mazda becomes the Mario Kart Wii car

What happened? TikToker ttptng, real name Tyler Atkin, put the Mario Kart Wii steering wheel in his car. He then shows on his channel how he works with the Wii steering wheel driving on the road:

But that’s not all: Apparently he’s taken such a liking to adding more Wii U hardware to his car. Instead of a shift knob, he has that Nunchuck controller installed and instead of a normal floor mat there is now one Wii Fit Yoga Mat in the car.

As a result, the handbrake had to believe it and was replaced by a baseball bat replaced, which can be used for the baseball game in Wii Sports. To top it off, Atkin removed his radio and replaced it with one real Wii.

That’s what TÜV and ADAC say about the conversion of the steering wheel

Is this actually allowed? To be on the safe side, we asked the TÜV and ADAC whether the conversion of a steering wheel is even allowed. In fact, it would be possible to convert his steering wheel if the occupant protection and steering system regulations are followed and the appropriate approval is obtained.

However, both TÜV and ADAC are certain that the conversion would not be approved as in the case shown, since the requirements are not met. In Germany, therefore, no Wii steering wheel should be installed in an actually driving car.

As an alternative, there is currently Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for Nintendo Switch:

But on the driver’s side you can already see that Tyler Atkin is not from Germany. The TikTok user is from the UK, so different laws apply to them. However, UK legislation is unlikely to allow the installation of a Wii wheel.

The Wii Wheel isn’t made for real driving, it’s made for dodging turtle shells and bananas. Thus, he not only endangers himself, but also other road users. Therefore, we can only advise against imitating the scenes shown.
