HandOfBlood's LoL team beats their nemesis in the derby, but there was more at stake than just the win

Eintracht Spandau has been stirring up the German e-sports scene since it was founded in November 2021. Now, the LoL team of popular gaming influencer Maximilian “HandOfBlood” Knabe aka Hänno was able to claim an important victory against his rival – but something else was at stake.

What is behind the derby?

Eintracht defeats rivals in thrill derby

What was that match? On July 26, 2022, the fourth edition of the city derby between Eintracht Spandau and their rivals from Berlin International Gaming took place. The two teams didn’t give each other anything.

BIG got off to a strong start, even taking four drakes. But Eintracht was able to catch up, gained momentum and finally took over the game. But BIG didn’t give up that easily.

Several times it looked like a defeat for the Berliners, but they always fought their way back into the game. The back and forth did not only cause thrills and racing hearts for the fans:

Thrills in the derby make your heart race

The fact that Eintracht was able to win the important derby was not least due to the performance of their AD-Carry Kynetic. This puts the team in 5th place overall in the Prime League.

This is the highest league in the German-speaking area consisting of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The last game week of the current Summer Split ends this week. After that, the six best teams go to the playoffs, where they can fight for entry into the European Masters.

You can also watch the whole game on the Eintracht Spandau Twitch channel. There, the games are always very entertaining and commented on in the best fan mile style by the in-house streamer Broeki.

For Eintracht it was about more

That was behind the derby: Eintracht and BIG skilfully stage their rivalry on social media. In his role as President Knabe, Hänno is sometimes thrown through a table or knocked out by opposing chairman Christian Lenz:

Hänno and Lenz become violent

The two have come up with something special for the current summer split: If one of the two teams succeeds in beating the other twice in the course of the split without opposing a win, the defeated team boss has to come over to the other and cook for him.

For Hänno it was not just about winning or making the playoffs and thus the chance to take part in the European Masters. As Broeki put it on the team’s Twitch channel, “It’s about decency, it’s about honor!” (via Twitter)

After the win, it is 1-1 between the teams in the Summer Split and 2-2 in the standings. So Hänno won’t have to swing the wooden spoon – it’s a pity really, because he would have already had the right cauldron.

Eintracht wants to erase BIG one

This is how you wanted to meet the rivals: Boerki even went a step further and announced a “hate crime” against BIG’s rivals. They are currently in 2nd place in the table (as of July 27th, 2022) and would therefore have made it into the European Masters.

However, with 12 wins and 5 losses each, BIG and Team SK Gaming Prime both share 2nd place. In the event of a tie, the team names are always given in alphabetical order – a circumstance that Hänno also took advantage of and simply renamed his team.

Theoretically, SK would still have the opportunity to push BIG down to 3rd place thanks to the win. Then the Berliners would have to fight in the playoffs with Eintracht to get into the Masters – and that’s exactly what they want at EINS.

What’s next?

After their spectacular victory, Eintracht is almost certainly in the playoffs. Hänno had already announced when the team was founded that he wanted to play for the EU Masters in the long term and announced that he wanted to win the Masters within two years.

So it remains exciting whether they can finally fulfill this dream. The great performance at the derby should definitely give them some momentum.

While Eintracht Spandau is just really getting going, a great career in the USA recently came to an end: the top laner Huni had to withdraw from the active roster due to injury and caused quite a stir for his team.
