Xbox Series X: Market leader in next-gen consoles in North America for three straight quarters

With Xbox Series X|S, Microsoft is the market leader among next-gen consoles in North America for three consecutive quarters.

Microsoft has now provided information in a report about the past fiscal year or the fourth quarter, which ended on June 30, 2022.

Accordingly, the group was not only able to achieve a record sales year in the Xbox division. It has also been the market leader in North America among next-gen consoles for three consecutive quarters with Xbox Series X|S.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said in Tuesday’s financials press conference: “We have sold more consoles to date than any Xbox generation before it and have been the market leader in next-gen consoles in North America for three straight quarters.”

Compared to the same period last year, video game revenue fell $259 million (7%) in the most recent quarter, in line with the company’s guidance.

Xbox hardware sales were down 11%. Revenue from content and services for Xbox was down 6%, which Microsoft blames on fewer game hours and monetization of third-party content. However, Microsoft said this was partially offset by growth in Xbox Game Pass subscriptions.

As per Kendra Goodenough, Microsoft’s director of investor relations The Verge said the decline in Xbox hardware was due to supply shortages since launch. This has extended the period for consoles.

“The decline in Xbox hardware reflects in part the fact that it was launched about two years ago and the supply shortages we’ve seen over the last few years have extended the console timeline.”

“We’re still seeing strong demand, but we’re coming down from the highs we’ve seen at launch in recent years.”

The Market Analyst DomsPlaying believes the $3.45 billion in revenue represents the best-ever fourth-quarter revenue. Based on that number, annual revenue for Xbox is $16.22 billion, which is the highest annual revenue Xbox has ever achieved.
