In August 2022, subscribers to PS Plus Essential will get three absolutely amazing games for free. Fans are excited after a months-long dry spell.

San Mateo, California – Sometimes it’s nice to look a gift horse in the mouth, at least when the horse’s name is PS Plus. Every month, fans with a subscription to Sony’s online service hope for new top-class free games. In recent months they have often been rather disappointed on the front line, but in August 2022 the mood is about to take a complete turn. Sony has unveiled the upcoming free games and is now showering love for the selection.

PS Plus: Free Games in August 2022 – New selection gets practically unanimous praise

What games are coming? On July 27th, 2022 it was time again for the announcement of next month’s free games on PS Plus Essential. A bit of tension was taken away in advance, however, since Dealabs had again leaked the games for PS Plus in August 2022. So far, the French source has been right about every leak and that should be the case this time too. Dealabs revealed these games and Sony confirmed them a little later:

  • Yakuza: Like A Dragon (PS4/PS5)
  • Tony Hawk’s Pro Skaters 1+2 (PS4/PS5)
  • Little Nightmares (PS4)

What are the fans saying? The reaction of the fans to the new PS Plus free games was not long in coming after the announcement. No wonder, the line-up for August 2022 is the best in months purely in terms of average metascores. PS Plus subscribers are now also happy about the new line-up for the coming month. On Twitter and especially in megathread to announce the games on Reddit, the fans roll over their heads with praise:

  • My jaw is on the floor. All three are bangers! Can’t wait to play them all“ – u/CodeMonkey789
  • This might be the first month ever where I like all the games. Absolutely unbelievable!“ – u/Reddy_McRedditface
  • If the weakest monthly game you get is Little Nightmares, that’s a strong month indeed! I’m really satisfied and with all the Yakuza games that are coming next month in addition to the already existing extra catalogue, I will probably not buy another game in 2022“ – u/Mantasreddit
  • While I already have all three games, I’m glad everyone is having a fantastic month“ – u/Therenegadegamer

In fact, there is practically no criticism of the games to read in the entire thread. There are probably a few simple reasons for this. On the one hand, fans have been demanding for months to get more single-player games in the monthly PS Plus offer. Recently, another multiplayer game was added to the selection practically every month, but they rarely met the fans’ taste.

On top of that, the titles, with the exception of Little Nightmares, are real AAA breakers. Yakuza: Like A Dragon alone has more than 50 hours of gameplay for subscribers, while Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 bundles the two PS1 classics into one hassle-free skate package and also brings back the park editor.

After the announcement of the games, the activation always follows on the following Tuesday, in the next month that would be August 2nd. From around 2:00 p.m. German time, the new monthly free games will then be available to all subscribers.
