Because nobody wants it: Sony cancels PS5 feature!
In various multiplayer titles there is the possibility to rate other players. For example, in Final Fantasy 14, players can give their fellow combatants an “Auxiliary Width” if they’ve been particularly nice in a dungeon or similar. Such features are no longer uncommon, but as it stands, this function is not always actually used.
Sony scraps PS5 feature because nobody used it
There is one on the PlayStation 5 award function, which allows players to rate other users in different categories. However, the positive feedback can only be given to players who are not on their own friends list, and only every twelve hours. In addition, the function must be integrated into their titles by the developers themselves. It was used in Ghost of Tsushima: Legends and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, for example.
However, the feature was probably not as well received as Sony thought, which is why the award function to be discontinued “in the near future”. The company did not announce an exact date, but players will no longer be able to send awards by autumn of this year. Players will also likely lose any accolades they have accumulated throughout their careers.
While the PlayStation 5 feature will be lost, the in-game rating features of titles like Elden Ring will of course remain. Do you have the awards system on the PlayStation 5 (buy now €709.99) used yourself? Or did you just find out for the first time that this even exists?
