Striking Distance Studio has unleashed another creature from their sci-fi horror game The Callisto Protocol. On Twitter, game director Glen Schofield presents us with “The Blind”. This space monster has adapted to the dark and will find you without eyes.

Such beasts are very popular in horror titles, and The Blind has well-known ancestors like the Licker from Resident Evil 2 or the Clickers from The Last of Us, each of which cannot see but can locate you by the sounds they make. That means the snazzy design also has an impact on gameplay.

All known enemies from The Callisto Protocol

in one Interviewed by Game Informer Schofield announced that there will be ten to eleven different enemy types in The Callisto Protocol – a decent number for a horror title. With the latest revelation, we now know four beings who want to get at us in Black Iron prison on Callisto:

  • biophage: The biophage is the umbrella term for all mutants in The Callisto Protocol. The simplest form looks a bit like Davy Jones’ crew in Pirates of the Caribbean. We already know a variant with the double-headed monster. Humans killed by the biophage attack aggressively with melee and ranged attacks. Just like in Dead Space, you can shoot individual body parts and weaken the opponents in a targeted manner.

  • Bloodworm: The bloodworms have a long neck, which they like to stretch out to nibble at you with their sharp teeth. However, these creatures do not appear to be particularly strong or resilient.

  • The Blind: We have already briefly presented the blind variation of the biophage above. These monsters roam in the dark, shamelessly taking advantage of the fact that we rely on our eyes to survive. If you meet this opponent, you have to be quiet and slowly creep on.
  • Security Robot: In addition to the mutants, there are also robots on the move in the prison, which represent an interesting contrast to the fleshy biophage. Unfortunately, the AI units are not on our side and are apparently trying to wipe out all organic life in the facility – whether human or monster.

In the trailer you can see some of the monsters in action:

The Callisto Protocol wants to bring back the horror of Dead Space

In the GamePro interview, Schofield emphasized that he and his team don’t want to deliver an action knockoff, but rather a tough horror game. So the above monsters will make you sweat quite a bit. Of course, there should also be bosses, but we don’t know whether they count among the ten to eleven enemy types.

As we know it from Dead Space, a lot of blood and innards await us in The Callisto Protocol. Schofield promises “huge fountains of blood” and “deviant deaths.” So fans of gore and body horror will get their money’s worth.

The Callisto Protocol will be released on December 2nd for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One and PC.
