When FIFA 23 was officially announced, the focus was on gameplay. Bits and pieces of information about all sorts of aspects of the game are gradually reaching us. Today it is the turn of what is probably the most exciting game variant for many of you: the career mode. After EA served us some useful improvements in the last version, exciting new features await you in this year’s offshoot of the series – regardless of whether you want to make a career as a coach or as a player.

It’s in FIFA 23’s career mode

New personality system: after in FIFA 22 the main focus was on the coaching career, there are significantly more changes for the player career this year. EA attaches great importance to the fact that you can give your player your own personality. Everything you do on and off the field affects character development. Depending on how you behave, these three categories will decrease or increase:

  • maverick: You become a maverick, i.e. a daredevil, by always shooting yourself in penalty situations, investing your money in expensive watches and cars and shining in interviews with a lot of self-praise.
  • heartbeat: Heartbeat describes the heart of a team. In order to promote this personality development, you put your teammates in the limelight and also take care of the team in your free time.
  • virtuoso: Anyone who falls into the virtuoso category is an artist. Players with this trait decide games with their great technique and make extravagant decisions on and off the pitch.

As you can see, the lives of kickers also play a much bigger role outside of football. The leisure system is almost reminiscent of the Persona series. Depending on which category dominates your avatar, you will receive special bonuses on certain attributes. For example, Mavericks have a good finish, while a Heartbeat shines with a good overview.

Highlights: If you don’t have time to play all the matches in a season, there’s now a shortcut. In FIFA 22 you could simulate games and intervene at any time. This feature has now been expanded so that you can automatically jump to the highlights of a match that have a direct bearing on the outcome. This includes penalties or crucial scenes in the penalty area.

Familiar Faces: If you hang up your football boots, you can work as a coach immediately afterwards or start directly with a manager. If you don’t want to create your own character, you can now hire trainers like Jürgen Klopp or Pep Guardiola. Unfortunately, it is not known whether there will also be coaches from outside the Premier League.

Dynamic Moments: At important points in a career – be it a new goal record or a particularly exciting transfer – short clips are played in FIFA 23 to underline the importance of the moments. In the intermediate scenes, for example, you will be celebrated by your team or, as a new star, you will be welcomed by the fans in front of the stadium.

This is also new: The really big changes are apparently missing in FIFA 23. HyperMotion 2 improves many animations, otherwise the gameplay is sharpened in detail. It’s great that crossplay is finally available in a FIFA title right from the start, even if the respective console generations have to keep to themselves. Women’s club teams as well as the cup competitions FIFA World Cup in Qatar 2022 and the Women’s World Cup 2023 in Australia and New Zealand beckon as new content.

FIFA 23 will be released on September 30th for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One and PC.
