For Admin Day 2022: Your username for "Real World" thank you [U] - News

This content would not be financially viable without the premium users. But we urgently need more supporters: You can help too!

Update from August 3, 2022:

In the meantime, the “Real World” thank you has reached Fabian. Specifically, it is a poster in A2 format on which the 137 participants are listed, among other things. Fabian himself published photos of the poster in this forum thread. Alternatively, you can access the recording via this direct link.

Updated July 24, 2022:

Thank you to the 137 userswho participated in the project (all usernames were checked manually)! The “real world” thank you is now in production, with an estimated delivery date of – unfortunately! – August 8 stated. While some delay was unavoidable, how big it would actually be, was not evident at the beginning of the project.

This text will be updated as soon as the gift for Fabian has arrived at the editorial offices.

Original post:

It’ll be that time again soon: July 29th is “System Administrator’s Day”. After actions in the years 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, there is another community project this year, at the end of which, in the best case, a present for the tireless GamersGlobal admin Fabian Button stands.

Editor-in-Chief writes in the introduction to Fabian’s greeting for the 10-year GG anniversary, from which the teaser image also comes Jorg Langer:

Fabian Knopf has been shaping the website like no other since the end of 2008, namely as the main (and for many years: the only) programmer, system administrator, security update uploader, problem solver and Jörgs-often-only-half-thought-out- Idea implementer. Without Fabian, GamersGlobal.de would probably still look the same as it did in 2009, many, many ideas would not be implemented and subscriptions and crowdfunding would not be possible in this form.

From July 16th to 23rd you can – and this expressly includes the editors and authors – take part in the project. All you need to do is enter your username – you don’t need to do anything else this time.

As always with community campaigns, the motto applies: the more participants, the better. It doesn’t matter whether you’ve been active or registered with GG for many years or just a few months/weeks/days/hours.

Will we reach the number of 50 participants? 60? Or even 80 and more…?

After the deadline, the user names will be processed for a small “real world” surprise, which of course cannot be revealed at this point. If you really want to know what happens to your username, you can contact the responsible user ChrisL send a message – you will then receive a ready-made PM with the relevant information.

If you aren’t familiar with the System Administrator Appreciation Day, this is where you should be quoted from the Wikipedia article:

The commemoration day should serve to thank the system administrator, who usually carries out his tasks in the background – without attracting much attention – once a year for his good work. Although the creation of this commemoration day certainly has some humorous aspects, the serious background behind it is to thank the people whose work is not always immediately noticed and who are usually only called when something doesn’t work.

Over the past few years, the GamersGlobal community has held several promotions on each Administrator’s Day. These were not always meant to be taken seriously, but what they have in common is that the work of the “employees in the background” should (and should) be pointed out.
