Project L (working title): Riot shows new information about the planned fighting game

The US developer Riot Games has been working on a new 2D fighting game for some time now, codenamed Project L.

In duels, well-known champions from League of Legends will compete against each other and put their skills to the test. Like LoL and Valorant, Project L should be playable entirely for free. In-game, however, players should be able to buy cosmetics as usual – it is not yet known whether you can also earn them.

Project L’s core mechanics are already in place

As part of a published by the developer videos explains Tom Cannon, senior director behind the LoL offshoot, that Riot Games wants to respect the community’s time and wallets. The core mechanics of Project L have already been developed, now it’s about the trappings.

The team is currently working on building the champions and developing game functions such as competitive play and social systems. Of particular interest to LoL fans, Riot aims to dig deeper into the lore behind its champions.

Illaoi will be part of the new Riot title

The company has yet to release any details about the scope of Project L. It is also not known which LoL champions will await us in the game. But now Riot has revealed that at least Illaoi will find its way into the game.

“We have a huge selection of champions from ‘League of Legends’ at our disposal,” writes the development team in one blog entry. “There are muscular juggernauts, agile assassins and powerful mages to name a few. However, we are very careful about who we bring into ‘Project L’.”
