From Merch & Manipulation: Yes I paid $35 for MrBeasts Secret Video!

MrBeast the Perfectionist - Giving Away $1M Video Out of Dissatisfaction (1)

In my now sufficiently long life I have been a fan of many things; from games and development studios, series and films, novels and their writers to website authors and musicians and bands to content creators. In this meanwhile long enough life I have always driven well and, in my opinion, fairly with one rule: If I like something, I pay for it.

I’ve supported the folks at Massively Overpowered and BlizzardWatch when their parent company turned off their lights. I paid for Insert Moin and Orkenspalter TV. I go to concerts and buy overpriced band shirts. I’m delighted with the print quality of Depeche Mode and disappointed with that of Muse and Barnes Courtney. In F2P games, I also like to pay for a bullshit pack from the shop. And I buy content creator merchandise.

Victims of clothing merch

Mostly shirts or sweaters. I’ve already bought a sweater from Lennyficate and one from Julien Bam. Actually more than one from Ju. And since the beginning of my personal existence as a MrBeast fan, I actually wanted to get a sweater with the Beast logo. I find MrBeast funny, he and his crew have provided me with many, many hours of entertainment, so why not thank them too? If MrBeast is an ass behind the camera now or not, that hasn’t really affected me to a certain extent with other entertainers, moderators, actors, etc. pp.

Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson entertains me on camera and that qualifies him for me to buy some of his merch. However, MrBeast is also very clever with his MerchDrops compared to many other influencers – this Donaldson is a full-time professional when it comes to getting the most out of all his projects. I have respect for that. And he’s playing with my FOMO. There is no other way I can explain why I have now ordered the 100 mil long sleeve just so that I can SECRET MRBEAST VIDEO able to see …

Oh my…

The deal is the following, which Jimmy Donaldson communicates in his 100 million subscribers video: Anyone who orders one of the two 100 million items in the MrBeast shop in the seven days after the video is published will receive the link and login data for one secret MrBeast video that will never be uploaded to the public channels. An additional MrBeast video? If I order an anniversary shirt in his shop? Does that really work??

let me say Yes, it works, and in this case it seems extremely well.

Why? MrBeast drops new merch items in his shop a few times a year. Most of the year when you want to order something, you look at the ad that a new drop is coming soon. You can’t order anything. That alone fuels the subjective fear of missing something. Now imagine the fear fueled when Jimmy Donaldson says in his video: Anyone who orders one of two pieces of clothing within the next seven days will see a MrBeast video that those who don’t order will never see!

Shut up and take my money!

That 100 million subscribers long sleeve is not particularly spectacular, in red it just says “MrBeast” and “100 million” on the white top. In the promo photos with Jimmy, his ensemble looks like it’s his toilet outfit, but okay. I tend to like the subtle fan clothes and I don’t like the back of the 100M subscribers t-shirt, so I order the long sleeve.

Actually, As mentioned above, I wanted an item with the Beast. Actually. But the clothes that exist are not really mine. The 35-dollar long-sleeved shirt (a very reasonable price) is accompanied by the black investor hoodie. $95 for shirt and hoodie is okay, $20 shipping. Common from America. I didn’t actually get the beast gear I wanted, but hey, finally ordered it, eh? Plus, it gives me access to the Secret Video…right?

Success proves MrBeast right

The fact that the FOMO I described not only kicks in with me, but also with many other fans of Jimmy Donaldson and his people can be observed in the two following days. The original announcement of the limited drop with video link said it could take up to an hour for the email with the link to arrive.

I noticed. I ordered Friday morning, the first day of the seven day period. I waited all Friday. And all of Saturday. It wasn’t until Sunday night that I received the long-awaited email; Instead of two hours, it just took two days for the access to the Secret Video to be sent.

I also understand why, because for every email address given when placing an order, a separate account with a unique password is apparently created manually in the MrBeast shop. And if it takes two days to get my link to me and I haven’t ordered in a US prime time, then I don’t even want to know how many people have ordered in the shop and how many are still waiting for their access.

MrBeast’s scam pulls, both in his videos and in his shop strategy.
