Blizzard’s forgotten Warcraft point-and-click adventure got a makeover thanks to Fan

World-of-Warcraft-cancelled

Sometimes almost forgotten relics from the old days resurface. So too Warcraft ajar Point and click adventure Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans by blizzard. The project dates back to the 90s, when this type of game was at its peak of popularity. However, development stopped in 1998 and the finished title never saw the light of day.

Thanks to the magic of the internet, the game suddenly leaked in an even playable version in 2016. While very playable, the cutscenes were very fuzzy and of low resolution, the audio was not properly synced or completely absent, and scenes that should help to understand the story were nowhere to be found.

A fan couldn’t let it stand like that. The modder TheSilver83 then spent the last six years with restoring the video sequences of “Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans” and bringing them into shape.

Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans has been extensively restored

In this particular remaster project dedicated TheSilver83 watch the low-resolution cutscenes that originally hand drawn and freed them from compression artefacts. In addition, some frames and assets had to be completely redrawn in Photoshop – an absolutely mammoth task.

Some of the missing cutscenes were also recreated from the ground up to keep the in-game story flowing, and logic errors were fixed. In addition, the audio in this mod is also correctly synchronized and even missing voice recordings were created using text-to-speech software based on the script.

For TheSilver83 the work on this project is finished. In his latest blog post he celebrated the release of his mini-remaster and wrote:

“I’ve been working on this for the last 6 years and in that time I’ve done almost everything I could within a reasonable timeframe to complete and improve the cutscenes. For me the game is a lot of fun now and I see no real benefit in further improving the cutscenes.”

What should Blizzard’s point-and-click adventure be about?

The story should turn around thrill turning, uniting the various orc clans and eventually forming the Horde as fans know it. But the game was canceled just before E3 1998 because Blizzard felt its traditional adventure style was outdated next to competitors like Grim Fandango.

Former Blizzard Vice President Bill Roper later said of that decision: “When we got to the point where we called it off, it was just because we looked at where we were and said, you know, that would have been great three years ago.”

The story of the game was later turned into the novel “Warcraft: Lord of the Clans”. In the video below you can see how it is done Point and click adventure gameplay should have looked like.
