Overwatch: This month the loot boxes are finally over

Blizzard does not want to abolish the loot boxes with Overwatch 2 and will stop selling the boxes this month.

Players will soon no longer have to rely on luck

Digital grab bags have been around for a long time, but it wasn’t until 2016 that Overwatch made them really popular. The paid boxes there became a fun experience with their fancy animations and the opportunity to pick up a free box every now and then.

Six years later, the developer is distancing himself from these square money makers. During a birthday event this month, the loot boxes should be taken out of circulation and not return in the coming second part of the shooter.

The three-week promotion that marks the end of loot boxes features a handful of well-known Legendary skins that have received a minor makeover. You can get some of them by just playing, others have to be bought or can be acquired through the last loot boxes until August 30th.

More on Overwatch:

Until the release of Overwatch 2, you can still earn loot boxes through your progress in the game, such as leveling up or playing certain modes. From October 4th, the random surprises will finally come to an end.

Instead, Overwatch 2 prefers a seasonal battle pass where you can see all the rewards transparently. Most players now prefer it completely without chance and gambling.
