Solo Developer Creates Attack on Titan F2P Game - Reaches an impressive 10 million downloads

Fans of the popular anime “Attack on Titan” can rejoice: the solo developer Swammy is working on a fan-made game and lets you fight against giant titans. This is behind it:

What kind of game is this? The Attack on Titan (AoT) game is being developed by a single developer named Swammy. It is not an official game, has no real title and does not have its own launcher nor is it offered in a well-known launcher like Steam. Nevertheless, according to esports journalist Jake Lucky, the title has been downloaded over 10 million times. (via Twitter)

Swammy offers the game for download on the Discord server “Blackbox Studios”. The F2P title is stored there by means of a link and is referred to as “Swammy Attack on Titan Fan Game”. As Jake Lucky reports, Swammy has been working on the game for just over a year at this point.

If you want to see gameplay from the fan game, we’ll embed the tweet with video scenes here:

AoT game also on mobile devices

What platforms is the game available on? Swammy fan game is playable on PC and Android mobile devices. It will not be released for iOS.

The PC version of the game is 6.5 GB, according to Swammy. The Android version is 1.0 GB, but will no longer receive updates.

What sets the gameplay apart? Swammy’s Fan Game will not have a story mode, but can be played with friends. According to Jake Lucky, a sandbox is available there. You should also be able to fight and train against Titans. Overall, the game is aimed at fans of Attack on Titan. Those fans also spoke to Dead by Daylight recently when the horror game announced a collaboration with Attack on Titan.

What is the development status? Swammy is working alone on the fan game and, according to his own statement, is doing this for fun, which is why he cannot give any precise information on the development status, a schedule or future updates.

This is not uncommon and is also the case, for example, with the €8 shooter United Assault – Battle of the Bulge, which is also developed by a single person.
