Pokémon GO is usually easier for urban players - Bug event changes that and favors rural players

In Pokémon GO, you can take advantage of a special group bonus during the Bug Crawling event. But this is exactly what causes a lot of excitement among the trainers in the reddit community. We at MeinMMO show you what it’s all about.

What bonus is it? Bug Crawling, a special bug event, is currently running in Pokémon GO. On this occasion, you can meet numerous old and new Bug Pokémon in the wild. In addition to the usual event bonuses, Niantic has also come up with something as a group bonus.

You already know this type of bonus from the last Community Days, which is primarily intended to promote playing together on site. If you win a raid on site together with other trainers, certain spawns will appear in a radius of 300 meters around the arena for 15 minutes.

But city players in particular are just annoyed by this group bonus and vent their anger on social networks. We’ll show you what the problem is.

What monsters can you get in the group bonus? During the bug crawling, a different Pokémon is the focus every day, which you can increasingly secure with the group bonus. With a bit of luck, you might even encounter a Shiny:

  • Wednesday, August 10: Wurmpel
  • Thursday, August 11: Caterpillar
  • Friday, August 12: Webarak
  • Saturday, August 13: Zirpurze
  • Sunday 14 August: Toxiped
  • Monday 15 August: Hornliu
  • Tuesday, August 16: Ledyba

That’s why city players are annoyed by the group bonus

Actually, the group bonus should let the trainers play together more often again and offer an additional incentive for joint raids. But it is precisely this that is now criticized by many players. This is also the case with the reddit user Diligent_Trifle_4018.

What bothers the coach? As he explains in his reddit post, he thinks the group bonus for bug crawling is a good idea in principle, but its implementation is just annoying. He lives in a big city where there is an arena on every corner where raids take place and where the bonus can be earned.

But that, in his opinion, leads to a big problem. At the moment he is mainly looking for the new beetle Pokémon Mabula and still needs some candies in order to be able to develop it. But first he has to catch the little Pokémon.

If a group bonus is now activated, the selected Pokémon, such as Wurmple, will spawn for 15 minutes. For this purpose, however, the actual spawns are replaced. So if he just wanted to catch a Mabula, all he can see now is Waumpel.

And even after the 15 minutes have passed, according to Diligent_Trifle_4018, nothing can be seen from the previous spawns. For this reason, the reddit user would like a different approach or at least more interesting and, above all, rarer Pokémon, such as Sichlor, Pinsir or Mabula.

How you can develop Mabula, we tell you in our guide:

How do other trainers feel about the bonus? However, Diligent_Trifle_4018 is not alone in having this issue. As you can see from the comments below his post, many think the idea of group bonuses is great, but have had similar experiences.

While it’s usually a bit easier to play in the city, trainers now see even the rural players at an advantage. This is mainly due to the fact that there are fewer arenas in rural areas and therefore not as many group bonuses can be earned.

And the selection of the Pokémon that are released as part of the bonus also plays a decisive role, not only according to Diligent_Trifle_4018 but also according to the opinion of some other trainers. You can in the comments on reddit read the following:

  • shadraig: “This is the time when Pokemon GO is…better in rural areas.”
  • Mesoplodon: It’s a really fun idea, but the way it was done, every active area has now effectively ruined the bug event. You don’t want to actively play where other people might be raiding.”
  • Ark42: “I can confirm. Today is Waumpel Community Day everywhere. Even my daily adventure smoke was 100% Waumpel. I couldn’t find a place to walk that was far enough away from an arena.”
  • pokemonbreederOppar: “The problem isn’t the bonus itself, it’s the featured Pokemon. No one would really try to increase Caterpillar or Wurmple spawns. The bonus is a good idea but needs some improvements to get people excited about it.”
  • Osts_ssp_ “I agree, the bonus is very annoying. I play in Tokyo and since there are a ton of arenas with someone always raiding, Wurmple is basically everywhere and nothing else.
I know cities usually get all the good stuff, so I’m playing the smallest fiddle in the world here (we also get the CD extended to 7pm, after all), but I wish the bonus was implemented as additional spawns, the the not replace existing ones.”

Advantage of the group bonus in the city

Are there also advantages with the group bonus? Yes, the group bonus can also offer a huge advantage, especially for city players. Due to the large number of arenas, significantly more bonus spawns can be unlocked there, which gives shiny hunters in particular a better chance of encountering one or the other monster in its dazzling form.

Which monster is particularly worthwhile? Toxiped in particular will be interesting for many players, because the beetle and poison-type monster will also be found in its dazzling form for the first time during the beetle event.

This is also the opinion of the reddit user NDMac, who defends the bonus in his comment (via reddit.com): “If you’re a shiny hunter, you won’t say that on Sunday when Toxiped is activated.”

In this case, rural players are more likely to be left behind and have to go back to a city for optimal catching in order to benefit from the numerous arenas.

What do you think of the group bonus for bug crawling? Does it bother you that uninteresting Pokémon keep spawning? Or do you live in a more rural area and don’t have this problem? Feel free to write us your opinion here on MeinMMO in the comments and exchange ideas with other trainers.

There is still a lot to do in Pokémon GO in the coming days. We show you all the events in August and which ones are particularly worthwhile.
