WoW: Dracthyr now have pact abilities - are probably playable before

World of Warcraft Dragonflight Callers get abilities in Shadowlands. They will probably be playable “soon”.

One of the big features of World of Warcraft Dragonflight will be the new Dracthyr race with the new Caller class. This class can become both a ranged fighter and a healer and should offer many new ways to play. It was speculated in advance whether the Callers of the Dracthyr would be playable before the release of Dragonflight – now there are some solid indications.

Dracthyr Callers have been given their own abilities for Shadowlands content.

What was discovered? In the latest version of the Dragonflight Alpha, the Callers of the Dracthyr have been given their own Covenant abilities and Legendary items. Anima powers already existed in Torghast beforehand, now the set of “Shadowlands features” has been completed. With this, callers are – in theory – already able to participate in all activities in Shadowlands.

What are these skills? It seems like the Callers get the same ability in all covenants and this one is relatively uncreative:

  • Boon of the Covenants (Covenant ability): You call upon the Pacts of the Shadowlands to regenerate a large portion of your health and increase your Versatility by 10% for 5 seconds.
Passive: The Covenants have granted you some of their power, increasing damage and healing by 4%.
  • Unity (Legendary Item): Boon of the Covenants passively increases damage done and healing done by an additional 5%.

However, one should keep in mind that Dracthyr are not really part of Shadowlands and therefore an ability was probably chosen that does not have to be precisely balanced over weeks and months. A “simple stat boost” seems to be the most practical solution here.

What does that mean? With the introduction of the Covenant abilities for Dracthyr, it seems increasingly likely that the Caller class will be playable before Dragonflight launches. So far this has only been speculation.

The fact that Blizzard is now making the effort to give the new class endgame features in Shadowlands clearly suggests that the Callers can be played in advance – very similar to the demon hunters at the end of “Warlords of Draenor” was the case.

Demon Hunters were available to play 3 weeks prior to the release of Dragonflight – it seems likely that a similar fate awaits the Callers of the Dracthyr with Dragonflight.

What about other content? Incidentally, Callers of the Dracthyr will probably not receive any special, playable content for the foreseeable future for other “old” expansions. So nobody should expect to suddenly be able to play a pact campaign from Legion with the Dracthyr or salvage two artifact weapons. Blizzard had already said in advance that they wanted to make old content accessible to the Dracthyr, but specifically new content should not be created for it.

The Shadowlands Pact abilities seem to be an exception, so that Callers of the Dracthyr can get involved in the last few weeks before the launch of Dragonflight and not lag behind the other classes.

Are you looking forward to the Callers of the Dracthyr? Or can you not do anything with the class and the people?
