Soccer Story – Trailer announces the mix of RPG and soccer game

Golf Story is still one of my absolute favorites on the Switch. The mix of sports and role-playing hit the right nerve with me and made sure that I could hardly put the title down until the end credits. With Sports Story, another title of this kind is currently in the making, which is why I didn’t really have a possible football implementation of this concept on the screen.

But there is now, namely in the form of Soccer Story. Okay, the name may sound pretty uninspired, but it gives an idea of what to expect, at least roughly. Here’s the thing: in the game developed by PanicBarn, we are chosen by a magic soccer ball to bring harmony back to the world thrown off balance by unspecified problems. And what could be more obvious than doing it through king football?

Open world football RPG

In any case, the trailer already gives a hint of what we can expect from the gameplay of Soccer Story. Similar to Golf Story, this is a mix of RPG and soccer game in which we’ll run through an open world, talk to people, complete tasks and of course take part in various training tasks and matches. The developers promise various activities and events that should add up to around 15 hours of gameplay. There will also be a local multiplayer mode and the humor will obviously not be neglected either.

Due to this orientation and the cute pixel look, Soccer Story should be by far the most unusual soccer title in recent years and is between FIFA and eFootball – even if they are of course difficult to compare due to a different orientation – a wonderful change in this sub-genre. Soccer Story is scheduled for release in 2022 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC. Anyone with Game Pass can play the title on the service right from launch day.

Admittedly, not much can be seen in the Soccer Story announcement trailer. However, that is enough to trigger immense anticipation in me. Because if the title is only half as good as Golf Story, I should also have a pretty good time with the football version.

Of course, the mix of the individual elements has to be right for this, and the actual football games also look a bit strange in my opinion. That’s why I’m still a bit skeptical, but I’m already looking forward to the release of Soccer Story like Bolle.
