With Haikyu!! In recent years, a volleyball-themed sports anime has had a truly meteoric rise experienced. The anime series of Production IG (“Psycho-Pass” series) played its way into the hearts of numerous fans with its sympathetic characters and grippingly staged matches. Haikyu!! – After many rumours, the sequel is now certain

That story all around Main character Shoyo and his playing partner Kageyama would be continued should hardly surprise anyone given the great success of the series. In addition, circulated in recent months and years always rumours for a sequel to the sports anime. However, many probably expected a 5th season of the series.

Such was actually only at the beginning of the month as part of a Collabo Cafe item (via WSJ_manga) approved. Contrary to the expectations of many anime fans, those responsible have now announced with a teaser two movies to serve as the series’ grand finale. A decision made in the face of 100+ Haikyu!! manga chapters remaining (~12 volumes) quite surprised.

With to date over 55 million manga volumes sold the volleyball adventure is one of the most successful sports manga series of all time. The popularity of the work created by mangaka Haruichi Furudate also served as a template for a 4 season anime serieswhich was created in the renowned animation studio Production IG.

It is currently unclear whether the company will also be responsible for the two upcoming “Haikyu!!” anime feature films not yet known. The same applies to a possible release date. Further details are to be revealed at a kick-off event in August 2023.

Singer Kazuumi Kumagai told us how these collaborations came about.

Kumagai-san explained to us that in some cases her label approached the bandto inform them about a possible project of this kind.
