New Valheim patch on Steam: Developers want to fix the reset bug with an update

Valheim update: Developers warn of a nasty reset bug

from Thilo Bayer
The developers of the Viking survival game Valheim have released a patch on Steam aimed at preventing players from losing their world progression due to a reset bug. Patch 0.210.4 can currently be tried out in the test path.

It was already a big topic at the beginning of August: Valheim’s developers, Iron Gate Studios, published a warning about a new reset bug. Now they present a first patch for brave players.

Valheim now with auto-backup

We don’t like to remember: It’s not the first time in the Viking survival hit Valheim that there is a problem that can lead to a reset of the world – then all progress is lost. There has been since Friday now the patch 0.210.4, but only in the test path for the time being. The developers write that the update may still be unstable. Before releasing the patch for the standard version of the game, you want to make sure that all possible bugs have been discovered and that the balancing is right. Valheim has been in Early Access on Steam since February 2021.

To select the patch right now, right-click on Valheim in the Steam library and then select Select Properties. In the new window, select “Betas” and enter the code “yesimadebackups”. The public test branch should be available.

The specific changes and improvements are as follows:

* Added an autobackup system that saves a 2-hour and a 12-hour backup by default and can be customized in the various settings. The default setting on dedicated servers is 4, which can be customized with new parameters (-backups -backupshort -backuplong).
* The game now saves after bedtime or at 30 minute intervals, and the timer is reset when the console command is used to manually save. The save interval can be customized on dedicated servers with the new parameter (-saveinterval).
* The PDF manual for dedicated servers has been updated with the new parameters.
* World saving will be disabled if the world file is corrupted or if the world version is incompatible and the game will return to the main menu. Dedicated servers will be shut down when the world is corrupted.
* A change to Steam cloud saves to avoid a specific crash during saves that could corrupt world saves.
* The game will revert to the paused state if a multiplayer host is alone in a multiplayer session and all players exit the game (as was the case previously).
* Players can no longer create a world with the same name when Steam Cloud saves are enabled.
* Characters with duplicate filenames are now hidden.
* Characters whose names differ from the file name are displayed to distinguish between renamed files.
* Local and obsolete characters are now correctly deleted when Steam Cloud is enabled.
* Fixed the beehive VFX on hits.
