Whatsapp: Native App for Windows ready to download
Mac version in beta
Whatsapp wants to increase the stability of its messenger service on computers with a native app – the Windows version has already been released for download.
news
The world’s largest messenger service Whatsapp is preparing to add a native application to the web-based app versions for Microsoft Windows and Apple MacOS. This should make chats available even when the paired smartphone is offline and not connected to the computer being used.
As the in-house blog reports, Whatsapp expects the native app version to offer not only offline availability but above all a more stable and powerful messenger application. In addition, the graphic interface of the app can be adapted and optimized to the respective desktop operating system.
The pairing of the smartphones with the new Whatsapp client works in the same way as the previous procedure with the web-based services. Using a generated QR code, users can connect the respective device to the current Whatsapp application and thus initiate synchronization between the mobile app and the desktop program. As before, only computers are allowed as additional devices for coupling via the new Whatsapp version – like the usually well-informed portal “WABeta” reports that the so-called “multidevice” option for tablets and additional smartphones is already in the works.
The new WhatsApp app is available for Windows users already in the Microsoft Store ready to download. Mac users, on the other hand, will have to wait until an official release because the Apple-compatible version is still under development. Interested parties can at least use Apple’s “TestFlight“-App test the first beta versions. According to the current status (08/17/2022), the test phase is fully occupied. It is not known whether further places will be created for the preliminary versions of the native Whatsapp application, so Mac users can continue with the previous versions of Whatsapp Web have to make do with.
