Amazon uses invitation system to sell Sony console

But now the “first come, first serve” system seems to have had its day at the online mail order company. With the last console drop from Amazon, you could only get the PS5 by invitation. This is the new invitation system at Amazon: The drop on August 17 at Amazon Germany ran for the first time with a new invitation system. You couldn’t just add the console to the cart after it became available there, you had to ask for an invite. Only the people who were invited could then buy a PS5.

How exactly does the system work? The console appears as normal on Amazon. But instead of the text “Add to shopping cart” there is a button with “Request an invitation”. After you request the invite, Amazon will take a while to verify your account. It “depends on several factors, so we can’t predict the wait time,” Amazon writes. It will probably check whether you have already bought a PS5 using this account in advance, whether you have multiple accounts, or whether the account was created from scratch.

When everything has been checked, you will receive a personal invitation to purchase by email. There is a link that will take you directly to the purchase of the PS5. This link is valid for 72 hours. So, if you have been approved for sale, you can order the PS5 without any stress.

Are there tricks? It is not yet entirely clear how the invitations will be sent and how easy it is to actually get them. What is certain is that this system had already been used in other countries beforehand. There it sometimes took several days until you actually received the invitation to sell after requesting it.
