With a one-minute artwork teaser, the developers of the newly founded studio Something Wicked Games presented yesterday Gamescom Opening Night Live 2022 an open-world role-playing game with the peculiar title Wyrdsong teased. It should be a classic role-playing game in a fictional medieval setting in Portugal, whose story and gameplay should be shaped by tried-and-tested virtues of popular RPG classics in a fantasy universe.

These ambitions and the focus on the genre’s traditional strengths are no coincidence, given that the two founders of the new studio are none other than Jeff Gardinerformer producer and game designer at Bethesda Game Studios and Charlie Staples, longtime design director at Obsidian Entertainment. Right at the beginning, the teaser makes it clear in which direction the journey is going, as there classic RPG hits like Fallout 3, Fallout – New Vegas, Fallout 4, The Elder Scrolls 5 – Skyrim, Dragon Age – Inquisition and The Outer Worlds are cited as references that the industry veterans helped develop.

The Something Wicked Games studio is currently under construction, employees are being sought, and no publisher has yet been found for production and distribution. However, NetEase, one of the leading Chinese Internet technology companies, was won as a partner for the promotion and the trade fair presentations. At the moment there is no release date within reach, nor are release platforms known, and other information about the game is rather rare. If there are more details about the planned title at Gamescom in the next few days or in the future, you can find out here from us.
