Steam update: Valve wants to massively overhaul the mobile app

from Claus Ludewig
A mobile app has been available since 2015 so that you can access your own Steam library while on the go. Now manufacturer Valve has announced a comprehensive redesign.

Steam has been available on PC since 2003 and was initially heavily criticized. There are now over a billion active user accounts and most people buy their computer games digitally. After all, acquiring games this way is convenient and easy. In addition, developers can easily conduct beta tests via Early Access. Most users probably ignore the fact that you only purchase one license and the game manufacturer determines how long the digital product can be used to its full extent. As familiar as dealing with the PC edition is, the Steam app for smartphones, which has been available since 2015, is cumbersome. Valve has now announced that mobile version a redesign to undergo.

How to get the new Steam Mobile App

There are currently still a few spots available in the beta program for the new Steam app. In order to be able to register faster, registration via QR code is now supported, so entering a user name and password is no longer necessary. If you want, you can also register with several user accounts at the same time. Valve also overhauled the navigation. Here, the sidebar has migrated to the siding. Instead, the primary navigation now takes place at the bottom of the screen. In this way, smartphone users can access it more quickly, since their fingers tend to be at the bottom anyway. With the mobile app you can shop digital PC games on the go or start the installation on the PC.

After registering on the Steam site, you will receive a notification from the Google Play Store that the update is available. Of course, there may be a waiting period before you are admitted to the public test. iPhone owners cannot test the new Steam app because all 10,000 slots have already been taken. Valve itself asks all testers for feedback.
