Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty: Details on weapon types, morale system and more

Activision Blizzard: Phil Spencer pleased with acquisition progress

The developer of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty talked about weapon types and morale system.

Team Ninja’s Producer Fumihiko Yasuda and Development Producer Masaaki Yamagiwa spoke to IGN about their new game, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, which recently revealed its first gameplay trailer and screenshots.

In conversation, Yasuda first said that Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has much larger locations than was the case in Nioh.

As for the fighting, the Chinese martial arts were the basis, so it’s all about speed. Therefore, there is also no stamina indicator. In any case, an increased fighting speed is only natural for a Chinese martial arts game.

“Because the locations are in China, we were able to create locations on a much larger scale than Nioh, which was set in Japan. Even something like a castle is a lot bigger than it used to be, and exploration has become more vertical because the player character can jump into Wo Long.”

“In terms of gameplay, the biggest difference is the emphasis on speed. There is no stamina meter like in Nioh, so you are constantly faced with a variety of situations where you need to react immediately. You can choose to play more aggressively, but there are also many new ways to dodge enemy attacks.”

Players will have access to more than ten weapon types in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. These include longswords, spears, and dual swords.

The developers languages also about the morale system. Morale shows how difficult it will be to defeat an opponent. Enemies with higher morale will be harder to defeat. Killing your opponents will increase your morale, while your own death will decrease it. In addition, the rank of an opponent also affects the player.

But other important things are linked to the rank in morale. Like unlocking new spells or being able to summon a divine beast.

“As you rank up, new spells are unlocked that work like spells. In addition, divine beasts can be summoned to aid you in battle. The trailer shows the cinnabar bird being summoned, one of the legendary beasts of China. As the story progresses, you will befriend more of these divine beasts.”

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will be playable on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and via Xbox Game Pass next year. We have the current gameplay trailer for you here.
