A hit shooter on Steam brings twitch streamers shroud and iiTzTimmy as playable heroes — why fans aren't so excited

Super People hasn’t even been released yet, but is already doing well on Steam. Now you quit the two popular Twitch streamers, shroud and iiTzTimmy, as playable characters, but the community is concerned that they’re being prioritized incorrectly.

What is Super People?

  • Super People is a battle royale game developed by the Korean developer Wonder People and is based heavily on models such as PUBG: Battlegrounds
  • However, there is a twist: all characters have superpowers, which can really mess up the flow of the game
  • The game has already had up to 50,000 concurrent players on Steam, and it’s still in beta (via steamcharts), streamers like DrDisrespect and shroud already showed the shooter
  • Now, however, some decisions by the developers are causing displeasure among the players

Developers grant a preview of streamer characters

This is the current status of Super People: On August 30th the final beta of Super People came to an end. Fans of the shooter will now have to wait until October 10th for Early Access before they can jump back into the fray.

So perhaps the August 31st announcement should shorten the wait for players and keep the anticipation alive. Because the developers announced via Twitter two new playable characters and already showed the first pictures.

These new characters are: With Michael “shroud” Grzesiek and Timothy “iiTzTimmy” An, two popular shooter streamers have been grabbed and immortalized as playable characters. You can take a first look at the digitized Twitch stars here:

This is what shroud and iiTzTimmy will look like in Super People

It has not yet been announced what skills the two new Super People will have. It is also not yet known whether more streamers will appear in the game in the future.

Frustration among the players: “We need fewer cheaters instead of childish skins”

What the fans say: There doesn’t seem to be much anticipation given the new characters. There are certainly words of praise and suggestions to include other well-known names in the game. But many players have other concerns.

This disturbs the players: Basically, players are annoyed by 3 things: the servers, the cheaters, and the wait for early access. Here are some of the reactions to the announcement:

  • PRATTZY asks, “Are we getting proper servers and footstep audio?”
  • F/A x Kitten had bad experiences: “These cheaters are ruining the competitions! I lost my chance in the finals to a cheater with some others during the Solo FPP tournament.”
  • Yourself would like more speed: “Guys, if you can work fast, it would be better, otherwise your player base will die. At least give us recent updates on the game to keep the hype going.”
  • Asith Pussewela doesn’t want to wait that long: “Cool thing, but October 11th, that’s another month to wait to play the game.”
  • JM doesn’t even get that far: “It would help if I could actually play the game and not get an error message every time.”

Some players feel that the developers are not getting their priorities right. One player feels that instead of “childish skins” what is needed is better servers, fewer cheaters, and a bunch of minor improvements.

Another agrees:

I couldn’t agree more. It’s obvious that they’re not focusing on what’s important. They’ve picked the worst possible release date and are focused on nonsense like that. Nobody wants to look like a streamer to follow, it’s a niche market and a waste of time and resources.

So far, the developers have not commented on the feedback from the community. Perhaps they can use the time leading up to the launch of Early Access to address some of the issues players have raised.

How do you see it, did Super People convince you in the beta or do you prefer to wait for the final release? Do you get anything out of the streamer characters or do you think the developers should re-prioritise?

Whether it suits the games or not, content creators have become an integral part of the gaming scene. E-sports teams are already hiring streamers to promote themselves. Some can really benefit from this development:
