Die Shooter-Reihe könnte mit CoD 2.0 bald ein Abo-Modell bekommen.

Call of Duty will probably appear again as a new part in 2024 and we may already know what to expect there.

If the rumors are true, the Call of Duty series will pause in 2023. But no need to panic: Modern Warfare 2 is still coming this year and in 2024 a new CoD is likely to appear again (and Warzone 2 is also coming !). According to an insider and leak, it is already clear what kind of story setting awaits us in the single player campaign.

CoD 2024 is said to be set in the 1990s and 2000s

That’s what it’s about: There has been speculation for some time that Activision wants to give the Call of Duty series a break and more time next year. But after that it will probably continue at full throttle, and we may already know where to go.

1990s and 2000s: According to the Twitter account TheGhostofHope, the 2024 Call of Duty game’s campaign will be centered around “Operation Iraqi Freedom” and “Operation Enduring Freedom.” That would mean that the plot of the story takes place in the 90’s and 2000’s.

These are the Iraq War or the Third Gulf War as well as the war declared by the USA or the international fight against terrorism as a result of the attacks of September 11, 2001.

Lots of scandal potential: This setting around the search for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and the resulting developments are a proverbial minefield. It remains to be seen how sensitively the CoD series deals with this difficult topic. So far, Activision hasn’t exactly covered itself in glory:

Treyarch’s campaign? The single player story of this Call of Duty part is supposed to be developed by the Activision studio Treyarch. Which would be news, their titles have always tended to be set in the more distant past or future.

Don’t rejoice too soon! All of this has not yet been confirmed, so you should treat the supposedly leaked information here with the appropriate caution. The leaker GhostofHope is probably familiar with Call of Duty in particular, but has so far been more of an unknown.

The release of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (not to be confused with the remaster campaign or the first Modern Warfare 2!) is not long now. The new shooter for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X and PC will be released on October 28th. The release of Warzone 2.0, which has not yet been precisely dated, follows shortly afterwards.

What would you think of such a setting? What do you think of a corresponding story from Treyarch?
