Pokémon GO: Trainers proudly show off their Pikachu collections - how many have you collected?

In Pokémon GO, one monster in particular is very popular with trainers: Pikachu. For this reason, the players diligently collect the Pokémon and now show their yield. We at MeinMMO have looked at how many Pikachu other players have already collected and we’ll tell you why they’re doing it.

What Pokemon is it? One of the most popular monsters in the game is the Electric-type Pokémon Pikachu. Even in the anime, it was always a loyal companion to you and has thus developed into a kind of mascot. And Pikachu has also become an integral part of the mobile game, which is indispensable.

Pikachu seems to particularly like to dress up, because as soon as the occasion allows, the yellow mouse will dress up for you. In the past, it could be found in special costumes at numerous festivals, such as Halloween and Christmas, but also at special events such as the GO Festival.

These diverse designs meanwhile ensure a real collection hype for some trainers. In the reddit community, some players are now presenting their achievements and expressing their desire for a new, important feature.

Reddit users have already collected so many Pikachu

The fact that collecting costumed Pokémon, especially the Pikachu family, has become a bit of a hype can be seen by looking at the reddit post by user umm_name at the latest. There he shares a picture with 10 different costumed Pikachu and Raichu and asks “Anyone else collect Pikachu?”.

It quickly becomes clear that umm_name is not alone with this passion. Other trainers have also fallen for the little electric Pokémon and take every costume they can get with them. Mandra_4837 also shows his yield of more than 30 costumes in the comments:

But according to various trainers, there are still relatively few Pikachu. For some, a lot has accumulated in recent years. For this reason you can read the following in the comments (via reddit.com):

  • Fjorgyngrma: “I have 229…ugh…there are so many costumed ones and I keep a few every year.”
  • FanklyNinja: “Wait ’til you hear about my 602 Event Pikachu, which I’m hoarding because I don’t want to give them away.”
  • NikkiWestX2: “Only 134 costume Pikachu because I’ve had to make cuts before.”
  • Adventurous_pay_5827: “I have 32 of the 37 available.”
  • Jomanderisreal: “I’ve played consistently since launch and probably have almost every single Pikachu. I’m only mentioning all of this because I don’t want to delete them, but they’re taking up so much disk space.”

But as you can see from the comments, the large number of monsters also creates a space problem in Pokémon storage. For this reason, trainers want a new feature in the future.

Why do trainers even collect Pikachu?

Is Pikachu strong? No, Pikachu is not particularly strong. It therefore plays little role in the GO battle league and in raids. A few costumed Pikachu can be further developed into Raichu, but this monster is also rather uninteresting in battle.

So if you are looking for a strong Pokémon for raids, you should look out for the best attackers in Pokémon GO. In the following video we show you a selection:

What Makes Costumed Pikachu So Special? Unlike the normal form, the costumes are not permanently found in-game. Some of them are even only available once during a certain event, like the two GO Fest costumes from 2021.

If you are lucky enough to encounter a dazzling specimen, it makes the Pokémon even more valuable. That was the case, for example, with the release of the film “Master Detective Pikachu”. Due to a bug, it was briefly possible to catch Pikachu wearing the Detective Hat as Shiny. Anyone who was able to get hold of one here can count themselves lucky, because it is one of the rarest Shinys in the game.

For this reason, trainers don’t want to just sort out their costumes and send them off. Only moving to Pokémon Home would be an option for some to gain space. However, this is not yet possible with the costumed monsters.

In addition, some trainers also want to interact with these monsters from time to time. You want to use them as a buddy or take pictures with them. So if you want to collect them this way, you’ll have to leave them in your Pokémon GO storage for better or worse.

Therefore, a separate storage for these costume Pokémon would help here. It remains to be seen whether Niantic will introduce such a function here in the future and the trainers will then be able to collect costumed Pokémon in their own box. If there is any new information about this, you will find out from us on MeinMMO.

How do you like the fact that you can always find costumed Pokémon in the game? How many of these Pikachu do you have in your collection now? And which one do you definitely want to secure? Feel free to write it to us in the comments and exchange ideas with other trainers.

In addition to costumed Pokémon, dazzling specimens are also very popular in Pokémon GO. I’ll show you the 10 most beautiful Shinys that I could never do without.
