from Claus Ludewig
South Korean manufacturer LG will integrate cloud gaming services like Geforce Now into its smart TVs. You can also buy NFTs in the LG Art Lab.

It is currently hard to avoid non-fungible tokens – NFTs for short. Many companies see a big business model in this trade. Some time ago, one of the world’s largest TV manufacturers entered the business. Samsung sells – in some countries – NFT artworks for its smart TVs. Now the South Korean arch-rival LG follows, which also integrates an NFT marketplace. In the US it is Payment service called LG Art Lab already started. From September 22nd there will be a first digital work of art available for purchase.

Geforce Now & Co. are coming to LG TVs

In the USA, the app runs on all smart LG televisions from WebOS 5.0 and built in 2020 or later. To complete the purchase of a digital work of art, you have to scan a QR code that appears with a smartphone. The digital image can then be displayed on the TV in standby, for example, in order to turn the Smart TV into a picture frame. At the same time, LG earns something from it and could improve the small margin for televisions. In addition to the integration of NFT, LG will also offer cloud gaming services that can also be used in Germany.

Blacknut will come to all LG TVs running at least WebOS 6.0 from September. Of the Service for around 15 euros per month offers over 500 PC games that can be shared with up to five family members. In addition to Metro Exodus, there should be a large selection of Disney video games. Further will Utomik Cloud over 100 games from November Make it streamable on LG TVs. With this move, LG is once again emulating Samsung, which already supports cloud gaming on their TVs and offers Google Stadia, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Nvidia Geforce Now and Co. In addition to Blacknut and Utomik Cloud, LG also offers support for Nvidia Geforce Now.

By the way, if you want to read up on the subject of NFT, you will find a lot of literature on Amazon, such as “NFT for Beginners” by August Meyer. NFT stands for non-exchangeable tokens and refers to a digital object that has a specific value in the form of cryptocurrency. Owners cannot duplicate or share an NFT because the virtual item is unique by some kind of serial number (or by certain characteristics). When a vendor closes the technical foundation of their NFT marketplace, all money invested is gone. Blockchain technology is closely linked to NFTs and cryptocurrency, as PCGH examines in more detail in this PLUS article.
