Google cancels almost finished Pixelbook

offer

With the Pixelbook, Google launched a Chromebook with comparable quality to a Macbook for the first time in 2017. There has long been speculation about a new model in 2023. Now Google is canceling the development and dissolving the associated team.

According to information from The Verge work on the next Pixelbook was already well advanced when the spontaneous decision was made to abandon the project. As recently as May, Google’s hardware boss Rick Osterloh assured the technology portal that they would “continue to produce Pixelbooks in the future”.

Google boss goes austerity course

The team’s dissolution is likely related to Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s austerity drive. As Business Insider reported, he had already reduced the group’s new hires in July in view of the economic climate. He also made the announcement that Google would pause further development in some areas.

The dissolution of the Pixelbook team seems to be a result of this strategy. Google itself does not want to confirm the decision. However, the company comments to The Verge that team members are assigned new tasks in times of changing priorities.

Google keeps making hardware

Despite recent developments, new devices are expected from Google on October 6th. Then the company wants to introduce the Pixel 7, the 7 Pro and a new Pixel Watch. Rumor has it that new Nest Home products could also be included, such as GSMArena writes.

In May of this year, Google also announced so 9to5Macthat it wants to launch a Pixel tablet. Such a device could probably appear in 2023.
