Skull and Bones: Developers explain ship customization and smuggling networks

Ubisoft is raising prices: As the game publisher announces, after Skull and Bones other AAA games from the publisher will be sold for 80 euros. So far, the price increase only affects games for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X.

Two years ago, the arrival of the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X in the console market prompted publishers to increase the prices of AAA games. From Sony itself to Activision Blizzard to Take Two and Gearbox, the big PS5/XSX games from these companies all started at a price of 70 US dollars, which in turn is a mathematically incorrect price conversion to 80 euros in this country entailed. Only Ubisoft has guaranteed a stable price for its next-gen games – until now.

As confirmed by Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot in an interview with Axios Gaming, some future Ubisoft titles will be priced the same as competing companies. The big AAA games, as Guillemot called them, are to be sold accordingly for 70 US dollars/80 euros. The beginning of the new price strategy should be the upcoming pirate adventure Skull and Bones, which will be released on November 8th for the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X, among others. The 80 euros are reality here for Sony and Microsoft, PC gamers (still) pay 60 euros and thus 20 euros less (for example at Epic Games).

The company already made it clear with its announcement about Assassin’s Creed Mirage that not every upcoming Ubisoft game will be awarded the new price standard: The playing time is significantly shorter compared to the most recent offshoots in the series, with a price of 50 US dollars -dollar – which should also apply to Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X – but Mirage is comparatively at the lower end of the price range for full-fledged games. Ubisoft also did not rule out possible free titles in the course of the announcement of Assassin’s Creed Infinity. However, it is still unclear whether the different pricing will also affect the publisher’s other franchises.
