ATTENTION! The following report represents only the first wave of information related with Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 and it is by no means exhaustive. Stay tuned for the next news. In addition, the Call of Duty: Warzone original is moving forward, and we will have more information to share in the coming weeks.

The biggest Call of Duty: Warzone map ever: Welcome to Al Mazrah!

Where are we going to fall? Welcome to Al Mazrah!

Meticulously crafted and polished by a group of developers from multiple studios, offering a distinct and diverse geography never before experienced in Call of Duty: Warzonethis new map is huge, dynamic, and rewarding, and built literally from the ground up with an emphasis on loading up your favorite custom weapon, dropping in, exploring the vast landscape, and have a good time doing it.

You can find yourself in a huge metropolitan area with coastal towns, reservoirs, deserts, rocky peaks, underground spaces, industrial areas, rivers, and an entire city to explore. You will recognize by land, air… and water!

In fact, Al Mazrah is so extensive that there is a dedicated blog that provides a first look and overview of the main points of interest, including places for veteran players. Read it here.

A true extension of the universe of Modern Warfare II

Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 will expand the universe Modern Warfare II and take full advantage of the latest technology – shared for the first time ever Call of Duty – to deliver a completely new and seamless Battle Royale experience before, during and after a match. It is a technology of Call of Duty built for the next generation, offering a shared experience and systems, with key learnings from Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® (2019), as well as feedback from the community. The key innovations discussed for multiplayer play also exist in Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0. To learn more about these innovations, check out the Call of Duty: Next: Modern Warfare II blog.

Starting Info: Swimming and Water Combat

Combat will take place on land, sea, and in the air, as the environment expands to include rivers, lakes, parts of the ocean, and more flooded locations. This introduces a whole new set of combat challenges and opportunities, many of which were explored in the reveal of Modern Warfare II in Call of Duty: Next. With a vast map the size of Al Mazrah, it is possible to clandestinely swim down river tributaries, conduct underwater ambushes and scouting, as well as move faster courtesy of the RHIB or the Armored Patrol boat, greatly expanding your combat options, using the tactics you are learning during the ground combat of Modern Warfare II.

Starting information: More than a dozen unique vehicles

In the fights of Modern Warfare II ground war and Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0you will have the opportunity to pilot, drive or operate more than a dozen new vehicles, and many of them are accessible in the Al Mazrah map of Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0. Naturally, a Vehicle Guide shows the vehicles prepared for use during the Open Beta; click HERE to read more about the Tactical Vehicle, the UTV, the Light Tank, the Heavy Helicopter and the Rigid Inflatable Boat, to name a few.

What’s more, depending on the vehicle you’re driving, you can customize it with a skin, including the free “Floor It” vehicle skin that you can unlock during the Open Beta (click here for information on the ten free Open Beta rewards). Additionally, you’ll need to climb or fall on vehicles, damage tires and doors, shoot windows, and keep an eye out for fuel as all vehicles (including boats and helicopters) run out of fuel.

You’ll then have to weigh the advantages of keeping a vehicle running and prolonging its longevity by locating and tactically occupying a local gas station (or looting gas cans). While vehicle tires can be re-inflated anywhere in the war zone, gas stations are smaller points of interest, but likely to be occupied as they allow for vehicle repairs… and ambushes by enemy teams, so watch your back!

Naturally, if you’re using the fast and nearly silent EV as a method of transportation, a different course of action is required to refuel…

Initial information: The Shop

As well as an impressive new range of ground loot and adjustments to how you access and store it, one of the biggest innovations is the expanded, yet simplified, purchases within a match. This comes courtesy of “The Shop”. These upgraded Buy Stations are for purchasing and upgrading gear and weapons, including custom weapons you created before you entered. These are some of the actions you can perform in The Shop:

  • Teammate Buyback: As in Call of Duty: Warzoneyou will be able to buy back a teammate after they have been downed in combat or have not returned from the new Gulag.
  • buy equipment: Similar to the original supply station feature, you can purchase gear such as gas masks, killstreaks, armor, and more.
  • Limited equipment: Some items are limited in number, and once purchased, they disappear from The Shop.
  • Buy weapons: Before a match, your main preparation focuses on crafting a series of custom weapons for your next match in Al Mazrah.
  • These custom weapons are purchased here. Note that this replaces a full loadout (your primary, secondary, tactical, and lethal weapon, as well as perks).
  • Custom weapons are built at the Gunsmith, then purchased here. They occupy your weapon slots. Tactics and Lethals are very common loot in the field. Benefits will not be available on Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 at its release.

Initial information: Circles collapse

A stifling storm gradually engulfs the landscape of Al Mazrah, you may be familiar with the encroaching wall of steam from your time in Verdansk and Caldera. This time, however, expect variations within the Circle Collapse. One of these can be the result of extreme anomalies in weather patterns that cause the safe zone to split into multiple Circles throughout a match that revert to a single safe zone as the match approaches the final circle.

Initial Information: The Gulag

This isn’t your commanding officer’s Gulag: This is a live-fire training complex, as well as a prison, where enemies need to be neutralized and sometimes partnered with. You’re dropped into a multi-tiered arena with just your fists, and a plan to loot, shoot, and win a decisive 2v2 battle before being allowed back onto the big map for a second chance at victory. Optionally, your fight in the Gulag can include finding an AI fighter known as “The Jailer”, taking him down and using the key from him as a means of escape. Don’t forget to loot as you go; that team goes with you if you win.

Starting Info: AI Fighters and Strongholds

There is more to the Al Mazrah war zone than active human operators; it’s a living, breathing world with a host of AI fighters ready to defend their plot of land, all of them woven into the fabric of the world. If you choose to take on AI combatants, expect a different kind of combat than player vs. player.

If you’re worried about AI combatants getting between you and your W, don’t: It’s your choice to engage non-player combatants scattered around the map, or NOT to engage them. The AI will not actively chase you or your squad, and you can choose to never interact with them. AI fighters have a variety of lethality levels and behaviors and are often found in specific areas of the map. Although they may defend their territory like a CDL pro, they will not seek combat.

Conversely, if you’re prepared to take on any combatant you see, there are spots with a concentration of enemies scattered around the map where you’re guaranteed to have your mettle tested in combat. Known as Strongholds, they await you with locked doors and a high density of AI fighters with a variety of innovative responses depending on your tactics. Conquer a Stronghold and expect some awesome loot, including an item that lets you buy one of your custom Gunsmith weapons in The Shop for free…

Initial information: DMZ

The most closely guarded and leak-proof secret in Call of Duty history may finally be revealed; there is a special “extraction mode” that will come to Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0. Known as DMZ, this is a passion project for the teams at Infinity Ward and the studios that contribute to it, and the main premise is to choose your own experience within the war zone, work in partnership if you wish, and collect equipment to store it in your inventory Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 and use it from game to game. We will have much more to share about the series of new challenges, rewards, gameplay features and much more when DMZ appears alongside Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0.
