Ubisoft says they don't want to make everyone happy anymore

Many gamers will have noticed that Ubisoft titles are all very similar these days. The setting is of course the crucial difference, but many mechanics are also similar in different franchises. Most Ubisoft titles offer some interesting feature for almost every type of gamer, but in the future the company probably doesn’t want to please every gamer with every game they play. Instead, Fawzi Mesmar, Vice President of Editorial, explained in one Interviewed by IGNthat they want to focus more on individual concepts in the future and no longer want that “One game has it all.”

Ubisoft wants to make more focused games

We want to be content to make a decision around that one game and be able to say, ‘We’re going to strive for that, we’re going to commit to that, and we’re going to be content that this game can make that one group of people happy, but maybe not all.’ And that’s okay. We believe a more focused game is better for the people who like that type of game.”

An upcoming game that already follows this strategy is the recently announced Assassin’s Creed Mirage. We already know that the title is more stealth focused and can be completed in as little as 15-20 hours, unlike giant titles like Valhalla. So, Mirage is for all gamers who enjoyed the original games of the franchise.

“There are many different types of players that could enjoy Assassin’s Creed, and we’re focusing on all of them rather than making a game that’s right for every potential Assassin’s Creed fan. So, for the folks who are going back to basics we want to make a game with Mirage for them and hopefully for everyone else who didn’t get to enjoy these classics when they came out. We’re also developing a multiplayer experience, a mobile experience, a big RPG experience. There are so many different types of elements that we take care of. We decided not to make one game for everyone.”
