MontanaBlack is open about how disappointed he is with Twitch on the live stream. He was already very critical of the streaming platform at the Eligella Cup.

Update from 09/16/2022, 09:00 a.m.: In a live stream, MontanaBlack now found harsh words for Twitch. In his opinion, the streaming platform is doing a lot wrong. “I’m just upset by the stupidity and ignorance of Twitch. I f**** that Twitch has become a mess at the moment.

Full name Marcel Thomas Andreas Eris
Known as MontanaBlack
birthday March 02, 1988
Place of birth Buxtehude
Subscribers on YouTube 2,900,000 (as of August 2022)
Followers on Twitch 4,600,000 (as of August 2022)

In doing so, he again underlined his statements from the Eligella Cup, because he already revealed there that he was dissatisfied with the sponsorship of the event. Not because RTL is a bad partner, but because Twitch does not allow its streamers such events. And for him, such events belong on the streamer platform and not on television. But Twitch is apparently not worth the money, as MontanaBlack revealed to its fans. When streamers make inquiries about such events, which often cost several hundred thousand euros “says Twitch, yeah cool, we’ll add 10,000 euros”.

No more events on Twitch in the future? For MontanaBlack it is clear that none of the major streamer events will run on Twitch in the future, because the Twitch stars can no longer expect any support from the streaming platform. But the problem does not only exist in Germany, because according to MontanaBlack his colleagues abroad also agree with him.

Twitch raises false hopes: But MontanaBlack still hadn’t let all his frustration out, because a lot has gone wrong at Twitch since the takeover of Amazon. In particular, the Twitch star cannot understand the discount for the subs, because the company tried to sell them as positive for the streamers. “Neither of us have done more subs, the only thing we’ve gotten is less revenue”. For MontanaBlack it is clear “Twitch and the streamers no longer speak the same language”.

Original report from September 12, 2022: Munich – The Real Life Eligella Cup was another top-class streaming event and this time it was set up in cooperation with RTL. Twitch stars like Trymacs and MckyTV gathered on the pitch at the EliasN97 soccer tournament. MontanaBlack also proved to be able to score and shone with a few saves. Away from the field, we were then able to speak personally with the streamer from Buxtehude. He told us that he would rather see big streaming events like the Eligella Cup on Twitch and not on RTL.

MontanaBlack: Events like the Eligella Cup belong to Twitch – “That’s where we all come from”

MontanaBlack is enthusiastic, but also has criticism: In an exclusive interview during the Eligella Cup, MontanaBlack spoke to ingame.de about the future of major streaming events. Because he himself always enjoys taking part in such events. “You meet people you haven’t seen in a long time”. That’s why it’s important to the Twitch star that such events are supported by sponsors.

In the case of the Eligella Cup, RTL was brought on board as a cooperation partner. It is probably no secret that the streaming world will change in the future due to TV sponsors and an ever-increasing networking of streaming and mass media. But MontanaBlack is rather critical of the whole thing. “Actually, such an event belongs on Twitch, because that’s where we all come from”.

Therefore not on Twitch: But there is probably a very simple reason why the Eligella Cup was not broadcast on Twitch, because apparently the streaming platform is not willing to spend money on such events.

I’m happy for Eli that RTL is involved, but on the other hand I’m not happy for the streaming industry. Because streaming is actually on Twitch, but Twitch doesn’t give any money to such events.

So the question arises as to how streamers should finance their own events in the future if even official Twitch partners with millions of followers do not receive any monetary support. For MontanaBlack, this is also the reason why more and more streamers have to resort to sponsors outside of Twitch “How are you going to host an event like this on Twitch if Twitch isn’t involved?”

An event like the Eligella Cup costs as much – that’s why streamers need sponsors

Other non-Twitch streaming events: It can be observed again and again that streamers use sponsors other than Twitch. Trymacs and Mcky’s spectacular boxing event “The Great Fight Night” also came about in cooperation with Joyn. Almost 500,000 fans followed the fights of their favorite streamers via Joyn’s live stream. However, Twitch gets nothing from such sponsorship deals, after all, events that take place in cooperation with other companies may only be broadcast on selected portals.

Because Twitch does not provide streamers with any money for such events, as MontanaBlack revealed, streamers would have to bear all costs themselves should they decide to broadcast on Twitch. And events of this magnitude can quickly end up in the six-figure range. Noisy esports.com The Great Fight Night by Trymacs is said to have cost around 700,000 euros, such sums are no small thing even for the really big Twitch stars. And a possible failure of a format would have to be borne by the streamer alone and could even threaten its existence.

This is what the Eligella Cup costs: A year ago Elias Nerlich started his first Eligella Cup, at that time it was much smaller and even took place without any spectators on site. In a stream, the Twitch star revealed that the cost of the cup was around 100,000 euros. If you now consider that this year’s Eligella Cup went a step further, it becomes clear that the costs may have been significantly higher this year. Although Elias did not give any exact figures, the following things, among others, have to be paid for:

  • Accommodation and travel for participants
  • Staff (security, folders, catering etc.)
  • camera crew
  • Rent Audi Dome in Munich
  • marketing
  • ticket shop
  • cleaners

This is how many subs Elias would need on Twitch: So if you assume that the Real Life Eligella Cup 2 was even more expensive than the first, it could possibly have reached similar dimensions as The Great Fight Night. So far, however, no official statement has been made as to how much money Elias and his sponsors had to pay for the event. In the example calculation below, we are therefore assuming a cost of 700,000 euros.

Twitch streamers currently get 50 percent of the revenue from subs from their followers. With a tier one sub, this means that streamers are effectively credited 1.99 euros. In order to be able to pay for an event like the Eligella Cup, Elias would have to get a whopping 351,758 subs from his fans. Noisy twitchtracker.com the popular streamer has “only” 39,575 active subscribers. So if Twitch decides not to provide money for events, it is almost impossible to run them through Twitch.

Of course, one should not forget that streamers can also finance themselves through advertising revenue and product placements on Twitch. EliasN97 only just became an Adidas brand ambassador and would probably have a contact there as well. The Trymacs and Knossi football event was able to take place on Twitch without a major sponsor. Selling tickets can also cover some of the costs of such an event. Nevertheless, it is much safer to have a sponsor on board, also so that you don’t have to bear possible losses alone.

Eligella Cup on RTL + – fans are also not enthusiastic about the sponsor

Criticism of the fans to RTL: The fact that the Eligella Cup 2 was not broadcast on Twitch does not only seem to bother MontanaBlack. The fans were also not very enthusiastic about the RTL live stream. Reports of stream failures and poor image quality during transmission are piling up on Twitter. The Eligella Cup 2 ended in an exciting penalty shootout.

  • NiklasVrz: “RTL is a good source of money, but Stream feels like TV and is anything but modern sports broadcasting.”
  • Pascal: “Many have problems because of RTL +, camera work is often bad, you miss too much, quality is often bad.”
  • Peanut_187: “Eligella Cup jerks and stops. But it’s not because of my internet connection.”
  • Terti: “Why don’t you stream an event like this via Twitch?”

Some of the fans abroad were not even able to access the RTL live stream and therefore did not get the chance to follow the Eligella Cup. So it is to be hoped that Twitch will spend more money on streamers in the future to promote their projects and events. So that they can also be broadcast on the popular streaming platform. Maybe we can even look forward to a MontanaBlack event at some point, who knows?
