Critical voices on the GTA 6 leak: “Years of work are now being shredded”

Troll action around GTA 6?: Excitement about screenshots and gameplay from alleged hack

The GTA 6 leak shakes the gaming scene, there is no other way to describe the current situation. Regardless of what legal consequences are still in the room and whether Rockstar comments on the leak, there are critical voices about the leak that show another side of the coin.

“Ignore the leaks”

Among other things, the well-known CDPR employee and Quest Director for Cyberpunk 2077, Pawel Sasko, comments on the leaks. He writes on Twitter that he “cannot imagine what the Rockstar team is going through now”. He also writes that “years of work are now being shredded, torn, analysed, misunderstood, taken out of context and bitched about”. It’s a “destructive cycle that the gaming industry knows all too well,” Sasko said. Finally, he appeals to his Twitter followers: “Help make it better and ignore the leaks”.

GTA 6 leaks affect game content that is still in production. CDPR has not yet had such a case, but there was also a hacker attack in February 2021 in which data was stolen. Some source code was also stolen. Overall, CDPR got away with a black eye, but the work on the then large patch 1.2 took longer due to the hack. So Sasko can understand what effects such a hack can have on a game production.

Many followers agree with Sasko on Twitter. For example, one user writes: “For the people celebrating these leaks: It’s going to be a nightmare for every developer involved with this game. There will be changes and delays, and then the same people will ask why Rockstar refuses to show anything new”. Another user writes: “I think we deserve that Rockstar has done everything possible to avoid any interaction with the outside world for the past ten years, which, for example, has damaged Red Dead Online a lot”. The fact that the leak can now also have something positive is an opportunity for some Twitter users. It reads: “Had 2077 leaked sooner, it might have given you some much-needed feedback and a chance to release something better. The level of secrecy the industry operates with is neither for the developers nor for the users nor really healthy for the end product”.
