Twitch: ##TwitchStopGambling – Streamers planning Twitch blackout for Christmas
Twitch hasn’t found any good solutions to the gambling problem on the live streaming site in the past few years. In order to ban slot streams from the platform once and for all, large Twitch streamers are now planning an action that will hit Twitch or the parent company Amazon hard in the wallet.
Gambling is a hotly debated topic on Twitch. However, most Twitch streamers agree that gambling has no place on the live streaming site. The case of Twitch streamer Sliker has now brought the last straw. Sliker gambled away several hundred thousand dollars, borrowing money from fellow streamers and viewers.
Gambling turned his life upside down. Big Twitch streamers like Mizkif, xQc and Trainwrecks are currently in the process of paying back the affected streamers. To prevent something like this from happening again in their community, some major Twitch streamers are now planning to force the live streaming site and its parent company Amazon to act. Twitch streamers discussed in the stream Mizkif and Pokimane along with marketing expert Devin Nash about a possible twitch blackout – i.e. a period in which they will not stream. Especially at Christmas time, Twitch or Amazon should hit hard and cause a stir.
Twitch blackout at Christmas time?
Their plan is not to stream for a week or even more over the holiday season. This would mean that Twitch would earn less from advertising during this important time, which should make Amazon aware of the problem. The streamers want to meet those responsible where it hurts – with the money.
Mizkif and Pokimane aren’t the only ones pursuing this plan. Both are influential figures on the platform. Mizkif is co-founder of Organization OTK, which has become the largest live streaming organization in recent years. Stream under OTK’s flag over a dozen major Twitch streamers like Nmplol, Asmongold, Richwcampbell and soda poppin.
If the streamers really pull through with this plan, Twitch would lose a lot of viewer hours, which are more important than ever for advertising revenue during the holiday season. What do you think of the action? Do you support them or do you think it’s a lost labor of love? We look forward to your opinion in the comments.
