Player in GTA Online becomes a billionaire, it takes over 18,000 hours of gameplay

The GTA Online Billionaires Club now has a new member. A user shows how much playtime they put into the game before hitting this huge milestone.

How heavy is this? Becoming a billionaire in GTA Online is a tough task. At least if you do it with the officially permitted means. Hackers can slip the banknotes in a few moments, but doing so violates the rules of the game and faces a ban.

If you want to accumulate such a sum with heists and other “legal” means, you need a lot of patience. On reddit, a player celebrated with a thread and the title “Finally! 1 billion”.

Player made money while being afk

How much time did he need? The creator of the thread, jamcar70, showed a screenshot of his social club profile in his post. There you will find information about your money. He has 10 million GTA dollars as cash with him right now. One billion GTA dollars are stored in his bank account.

Looking at the playing time so far, you can see that he has already pumped 2 years, 34 days and 4 hours into the account. We embed the screenshot from reddit here:

How much time does he play daily? In the comments, a user took the trouble and calculated what these 2 years and 34 days of playing time mean when calculated on the release in 2013. “That’s approximately 6 hours a day, every day since its release in 2013,” writes MIster–WrenchH. But that should not only be seen as active playing time, other players mention.

How does this work? “I’d bet a lot of that time was spent afk waiting for the stores to fill up,” Matttombstone wrote in the comments. This is a mechanic in GTA Online. For example, if you own a cocaine lab, you bring the ingredients to the lab and then wait hours for your team (NPCs) to process the ingredients into a product. You can then sell it for a profit. But the drug labs only work if you’re actually logged into an online session. Anyone who simply stands around afk in world history will be automatically kicked out of the session after a few minutes and transported to the single player.

Such a mechanic, where a feature works in the background while playing GTA Online, is present in several places in the game. And jamcar70 also used such a method. “afk on the security cameras to maximize nightclub revenue,” the user writes. Watching the in-game security cameras saves you from being “kicked for afk”.

The usual way to use the tactic is to sit down at the desk in the nightclub and activate the surveillance cameras there. Then you can leave the console or the PC and after hours collect the income that the shops in GTA Online have generated. It can therefore be assumed that the user did not actively spend the 18,000 hours of play in the game.

How much money do you have in GTA Online? Here’s a successful big shot explaining how he made $2 billion in GTA.
