Blizzard warns: Don’t complete the best quest in WoW WotLK Classic!

Ironically, Blizzard expressly warns against the best quest in Wrath of the Lich King Classic. If you can, skip an important piece of Warcraft history.

While the launch of Wrath of the Lich King Classic was generally solid, there are some annoying issues. Long waiting times on some realms cloud the fun of the game and now this too: The popular quest line “Battle for the Undercity” is full of errors and can not be completed in many cases.

Worse still, your character could get stuck in a phase where you just can’t go on. Hence Blizzard’s appeal: please do not attempt to complete this quest!

What is this quest line? The “Battle for Undercity” is one of the great historical highlights in World of Warcraft. Sometimes called the “Wrathgate” quest line, this is about a clear conflict between Horde and Alliance and a drastic crime of the Forsaken.

In the fight against Arthas and the undead Scourge, the Horde and Alliance attack Icecrown Citadel together. However, the Forsaken Apothecaries betray all sides, raining plague on Alliance, Horde, and the Scourge. There are numerous dead on all sides, including heroes like young Saurfang or Bolvar Fordragon.

Sylvanas denies having anything to do with the apothecary betrayal, blaming the dreadlord Varimathras and the apothecary Putress going it alone. Horde and Alliance then go into battle to conquer the Undercity, which is currently in the grip of the Apothecaries. Exactly this scenario is there to play.

What’s the problem with the quest? Apparently it is not a single problem, but several. The most common thing is that the scenario “Battle for Undercity” just doesn’t go any further at a point. There is no way to complete the quest and players are stuck at this stage.

While Alliance players can only abort the quest and leave the scenario if they are dissatisfied, Horde players can have more serious consequences. According to Blizzard, Horde are particularly problematic because “this quest step puts characters in a phase they can’t exit, and it also affects vendors and trainers in Undercity and Orgrimmar.”

When is there a permanent solution? That is still unclear. Blizzard is already working on a short-term fix, which is only a temporary workaround. Within the next day, characters will have the option to simply skip the Undercity event. At the same time, however, it should be ensured that anyone who skips the quest can still catch up on it at a later date.

Blizzard says in the official WoW forum:

It breaks our hearts to ask our players to skip this iconic content and we will do everything we can to implement a full fix as soon as possible to ensure a more reliable gaming experience for players playing this quest for the first time and give those players who were forced to skip a way to make up for it. But we can’t currently estimate when we’ll be able to offer a full fix.

Blizzard’s big goal is, of course, to make the event flawless. However, this may take a while and will probably not happen “in the next few days”. There are many problems that come together there and the resolution of which has only gotten worse with the increased number of characters per realm.

If you’ve been looking forward to the legendary “Battle for the Undercity” quest line, you should be patient – or risk spending a very, very long time in the Undercity.
