We’ll have to be patient for quite a while before we can finally play GTA 6 ourselves. It may be 2024, but Rockstar and Take-Two are yet to officially comment. However, according to a well-known insider, development on the new title could have started before the release of Rockstar’s western epic Red Dead Redemption 2, but then got a complete restart. We tell you more about the rumor.

Alleged development reboot

Well-known insider Tez2 has his Post on the topic in GTAForums released. It says verbatim (in translation):

The development of [GTA] 6 was in full swing prior to the release of RDR2, but got a reboot around the time RDR2 came out.

The insider also comments on the possible reasons for restarting development: Supposedly concerns about crunch, due to the planned enormous size of the game, played a role here. The insider recalls a Bloomberg report, according to which the game was originally supposed to include Vice City and a large South American city, but this was then rejected.

In addition, according to Tez2, a new animation technique probably also played a role. The insider calls a new Rockstar patent, which should lead to more realistic behavior of the NPCs. Tez2 explains:

[…] The inventors [der neuen Technik] only joined Rockstar Games in 2019. […]

However, since these are only rumors and speculations, not official statements, you should treat the whole thing with caution.
