The best game on Steam just got better – arguably the smartest way to invest €10 in gaming

Statistically, Terraria is arguably the best game out there on Steam. Although it only costs 10 € once, it has been developed further for 11 years: After the “last update” in 2020, there is now another patch that is exciting the fans: Labor of Love went online yesterday, September 28th.

Why is Terraria considered the best game on Steam? Terraria has done something no game has done before: it’s garnered 1 million reviews while maintaining the best possible rating: “Extremely Positive.” It currently sits at 97% positive reviews (via twitter).

No game on Steam before Terraria managed to do that: It’s an insanely good game that only costs 10 € once and has been excellently developed over the years.

What kind of game is this anyway? It’s an extremely complex 2D open-world game in which you’ll enjoy maximum freedom. Terraria offers a huge sandbox in which you can explore, build, survive or mine for ores: It can be played in single player and multiplayer.

Some call it a “2D Minecraft,” but that’s not quite the case.

2 years after the end of the game there is still a big patch coming

How does the game get even better now? Actually, the developers officially ended the development of Terraria in 2020 with the “Journey’s End” patch.

But now, with “Labour of Love”, there is another update that sounds like you just want to make fans happy:

  • You bring a new “Zenith” world: the developers call it the “Magnus Opus of Terraria Worlds Seeds”. The world should get unique features from all other Terraira worlds and also new, not yet known features.
  • It also says the world is tougher than any before it.
  • There are also many other “Quality of Life” improvements: Players can craft 3 different loadouts, most items stack up to 9,9999.
  • The combat system will also be revised.
  • There are also 300 new items, 25 new block and wall types and many other changes.

The patch is out now, you can read the full patch notes here (via forums.terraria).

What are people saying about Terraria? In the comments of PC gamer says a user:

  • “The $10 I spent on Terraria when it came out was the best gaming investment I’ve ever made and probably ever will.”
  • On Steam, a tester says, “This game is the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen. It’s so much fun and has so much content and it’s insane that it’s only 280MB. How is that even possible? I love it.”

Terraria seems to be an example of the much-maligned “games as a service” model that people are really enjoying.
