Strategy legend Master of Magic: Classic game free for a limited time, new version coming in 2022

This is great news for all fans of retro strategy games. There are two important announcements about Master of Magic. For one, GoG is giving away Master of Magic Classic for a limited time. And the MoM remaster is coming later this year.

Classic gift from GoG

The Microprose classic dates back to 1994 and is considered one of the best strategy games of the 90s alongside Civilization and Master of Orion. The Steam page for MoM Classic was only created in 2018 and the title still has a rating of 97 percent. Originally published by Microprose and Simtex in September 1994, Master of Magic is best known as a milestone in the grand strategy genre. On GoG, MoM Classic will be given away until around Sunday afternoon. So you should hurry up.

In 2019, the Master of Magic franchise was famously acquired by strategy specialist Slitherine and first released on Steam in 2020 with the Community Mod: Caster of Magic. The remake of the Microprose classic was then announced in 2021. The developers of MuHa Games (Thea: The Awakening and Thea 2: The Shattering) are responsible for the contemporary new edition. Now the release date is set: The remake will appear on December 13th, 2022 Steam and GoG.

In Master of Magic Remake, you take on the role of one of 14 unique wizards as they compete to rule the worlds of Arcanus and Myrror. You choose from various schools of magic and fantasy races, command them and then send them out to gain influence and power. There are armies of elves, dragons, dwarves, orcs, etc. Combat is turn-based, with magic favoring the outcome. Over 200 spells can be researched. The previous screenshots look quite consistent.
