With the Intel Arc A770 BiFrost, Acer is apparently daring to enter the market for desktop graphics cards. At the same time, custom models from Asrock and Gunnir were on display.

In just under two weeks, on October 12th, Intel will finally launch the Arc A770 desktop graphics card. At the start, the graphics card will at least be available in Intel’s reference design, and apparently the first custom partners are already working on their designs. Specifically, custom models from Asrock, Acer and Gunnir have appeared on the internet.

A market entry and first pictures

The big surprise comes from Acer: Up until now, the company hasn’t produced its own graphics cards. The company now apparently wants to venture into the game with its own brand Predator Gaming – and with a very unusual design. A model was announced via Twitter that combines an axial and a radial fan in a dual-slot cooler.

Acer wants to market this graphics card as the Arc A770 Predator BiFrost. However, further details are rare so far: Acer has not published any technical specifications or an outlook on other models. So whether the company will possibly act as an exclusive Intel partner is unclear.

In any case, the first tests on the Arc A770 Predator BiFrost should be exciting, because combinations of radial and axial fans are rare. At least in theory, such a design could have advantages: The axial fan protrudes beyond the PCB and can therefore blow its air through the cooler largely unhindered. However, this is not possible above the PCB, which is why the radial fan is installed there. This sends the air out of the side of the cooler and at the same time out of the case, which could relieve the rest of the cooling in the system.

While the Acer graphics card has been officially announced, details on the Asrock and Gunnir custom models come from Intel’s Innovation Event. Gunnir exhibited two custom models with three fans there, but they will probably not appear in this country. The two graphics cards from Asrock are therefore more exciting: a model with three and one with two fans was exhibited here. The triple fan graphics card will be part of the Phantom gaming series. On the other hand, no other brand name is printed on the model with two fans.

Except for the pictures, there is no further information about the models from Asrock and Gunnir, so you have to rely on the visible details. It is exciting that all graphics cards mentioned here have a power supply with two 8-pin sockets, whereas Intel itself installs a 6-pin and an 8-pin socket. Accordingly, the custom models should probably be designed for overclocking or offer one directly from the factory. This is certainly the case with at least one of the two Asrock models: According to Videocardz, this is marketed as the “OC” model.
