Horizon Zero Dawn remaster in the works [Gerücht]

from Maximilian Hohm
According to several independent sources, a remaster of Horizon Zero Dawn for the Playstation 5 is in the works. In addition to visual improvements, this should also implement playful elements of the new Horizon Forbidden West and thus bring the game up to date. At the same time, a Horizon multiplayer game for PC and PS5 is being developed. Read more about this below.

In the recent past, many game developers have used remakes to revamp old and popular titles with snazzy textures and sell them again at full price. While this works quite well for some games, others have been criticized for making the revisions barely visible. It is not yet clear which category the next title planned for a remake will fall into. It’s about Horizon Zero Dawn, a game that’s only five years old and was released for the PS4. And the Complete Edition was also released for the PC in August 2020.

It’s also still uncertain whether it will be a full remake like the latest Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 or a remaster like the Crysis series. According to previous information, however, the lighting system is to be revised significantly and the game is to receive high-resolution textures, better animations, new character models like those in Horizon Forbidden West and much more in addition to environmental occlusion.

Unlike the original game, the new version is said to offer players a choice between different graphics modes, which is mainly possible due to the support of variable refresh rates. The original game can now be played in 2160p with 60 frames per second on the PS5 thanks to an update, but the new features of the Dual Sense and native support are not yet available.

While there is a PC port, it’s considered unlikely that the developers will borrow from it, as the PC port also inherited the original game’s textures and character models, which are now set to be remastered. The remake aims to bring the title up to par with Horizon Forbidden West and implement numerous improvements to the game while continuing work on a Horizon multiplayer game for PC and PS5.
